2014 WRX tested in the states

Its a very rough test mule. Pretty rough version. Its rocking 2011 wrx wheels, they haven't made a rear bumper cover for it so they cut up an Impreza 2.5i bumper, and roughly molded in a hood scoop from a 2011.

Eww... Hopefully they have more work on the design left to do before production... I've always felt the tail end on the current Imp's looks unfinished.

Possibly the 6mt is just in there for the test mule, but the 6mt thing seems to be catching on with Subaru - I believe all current manual Legacys get it.

I don't like the impreza look though. I thought they were breaking away from the impreza line, so lets change the look up a bit. I miss the aggression.

Thats what I thought. Maybe this is a very basic test mule for just ideas/testing the engine.

Yeah, guys, I'm sure the styling is one of the final things they iron out. Since this is just a tester, they used existing headlights, etc, which gives it the current Impreza look.

I'm sure, since the Impreza was the baseline for this old WRX, they are probably using the new Impreza with a sort of "one-off" hood to test out a turbo'd F series engine in a car that should feel similar to the new WRX.

Subaru always amazes me with their ability to make really ugly cars that you wind up liking later on.

In 2005, I thought STis were ugly as hell (as I watched them fade away in my Supra's rear view mirror, muahaha). Now I love how they look. At the same time, I thought Mitsubishi EVO 8s were ugly...and they're still ugly. They didn't grow on me like the Subarus have. Evos will always be ugly. :grin:

That said, I'm sure this is just a test mule for the drivetrain, and the actual body will look way different. At least that's what I keep telling myself so I can sleep at night... :lol:

For some reason I get the feeling its going to look like a more refined version of that. It would be cheaper to do it that way.

FYI the 6 speed on non-sti subaru's still uses something very similar to the 5 speed case and internals.

Yep. It's basically just a 5MT with an extra gear, not the same as the STi's 6MT w/ DCCD. Too bad...

Maybe Subaru will look at a middling WRX model with an upgraded drivetrain (no DCCD) that does get a nicer transmission and front & rear LSDs. We can only hope.
