Ok so I am going to replace the dented oil pan on my 1st gen 2.2L. Now do I need to lift the engine to fully remove the pan? Or is there some trick to reaching the back bolts that are tucked above the sub frame. Also anyone know torque spec on the pan bolts?

I 'loosened' the motor mounts to lift the engine slightly, and used a uni-joint on my ratchet to get them out. It's still a bitch to line them up getting them back in, you chance some cross-threading
This was on my 2002, I'm assuming the issues are similiar

If you can lift the engine about 2 inches you can reach. Still a challenge but much easier. Just a jack should do it.

I removed my pan when I spun a bearing... I didnt it without pulling the motor up, but it's really a pain.

Best way to do it is like the other have said and remove the motor mount nuts and also the exhaust at the motor. that wau you get lots of room to work and do the job right.

Good luck!
