The other night I got in my car (96 Legacy L) and turned on the lights but the interior (dashboard) lights did not go on. The auto shift lights have been out since I got the car but now it's all out. The only thing that lights up are things like high-beams, blinkers, CEL. Any ideas?

There should be a fuse for the interior lights down to the left of your feet when you're sitting in the drivers seat. If all the fuses are good then a soldered connection might have come loose somewhere.

If your stereo lights aren't working as well (provided you have a stock one) then its a fuse.

I checked the fuse and it seemed to be fine... the stereo is out as well. I will double check the fuse.
I'm be surprised if some other soldered connection came loose because nothing had been touched...

Check the underhood fuse box, theres a cabin/room fuse that might have blown.

Turns out it was the fuse... for some reason it didn't look blown the first time I looked!

Silly fuse! Glad you figured it out, and it was a simple fix.

Thanks! My shifter light and the lights in the AC/Heat controls are still off. I guess that may be a bulb?

HVAC controls have 3 bulbs. There is a DIY write up on changing them.
