Finally decided to trade in the Legacy. She served me well and I will always love that little car. So here's what will be replacing the red legacy. It's a 2004 WRX with 102k miles. The previous owner (only one) was a technician for the Toyota dealership I bought it from, and he took very good care of the car. I couldn't refuse the price I got, and it comes with a 25 month, 12,000 mile warranty on the engine, trans, and other mechanical parts. Here's what I know is on the car currently...

Exterior:
STi Front Bumper
PROVA Grille
STi Hood Scoop
Rally Armour UR Mudflaps
"JDM" Taillight Wiring
30% Window Tint
4k HID Low Beams
17x8" Rota G-forces with 225/45/17 Kuhmo Esta ATX tires

Interior:
Center Dash Gauge Pod
10" Subwoofer
Rockford Fosgate 6" Front Speakers

Performance:
GReddy bov
Cobb Accessport
HKS Catback Exhaust
Tokico Front Struts with Eibach Lowering Springs
Whiteline 24mm Rear Swaybar
Perrin Rear Swaybar links
DC Sports Up pipe
Invidia Divorced Catless Downpipe
PTP Turbo Blanket
Godspeed TMIC
Perrin After MAF Coupler
eBay Silicone Turbo Inlet

Dress-up:
Perrin Radiator Shroud
Perrin Belt Pulley Cover
IAG Performance Radiator Stays
SMK Productions Dead pedal
Custom ABS Module Cover

haha yeah I couldn't find a LGT in my price range. This one arrived at my step dad's dealership, and he instantly told me about it. I'll stay active on the forums, and even though I'm rocking an Impreza I'll support in any way I can. I'll have a Legacy again in the near future.

Haha thanks everyone for the compliments (and shenanigans). I'll take more pictures when I get time this weekend. As for exhaust I'm planning on getting a catless up pipe and turbo back, but I'm not sure on the brand. More then likely get a Cobb or Perrin exhaust. STi splitters are in the works, but I just need this thing to sound louder then stock. So for now I'm getting a no name axleback from a friend for free. Also looking into a turbo xs bov, and a gauge pod.

Trader!

I AM NOT! I didn't buy an Evo. haha

Yes Chris it feels great to search for parts and not see a blank screen, or ones that are universal (that would fit a civic or cavilier).

It looks like it's been lowered slightly. My guess is some Tanabes or Eibachs.

Roof van spoiler and M3 lip spoiler for the trunk. Ditch that ironing board!
Get some colorful mudflaps on there too. Maybe orange ones?

I always liked white or gunmetal WRX wheels on the WRB cars.

stock intake with a good flowing filter is best unless your tuned for a non oem intake. if you do an exhaust or any performnce mods make sure you get it tuned. i've always been told tuning is a must for the 04+ cars for the sake of reliability. accessport being the easiest and you now get launch control. and for the turbo xs bov, my advice is to keep the stock bpv. i had that exact one and had crappy drivabilty so i put the stock one back on. just remember it's a noise maker and thats all. it releases air already metered by the maf and makes the car run rich. just speaking from experience here. enjoy the boost

Looks good! What springs are on it?

I think they are Tanabes front springs. Huffer I'd love to ditch the Rex wing, but I'm picky with random holes and different colored parts. I'm looking for those spoilers in particular, and I would like to repaint the side skirts WRB. RA mudflaps, maybe red, will be ordered shortly. Any yes I am planning to order an Accessport for Christmas. I plan on getting a new catless up pipe, turbo back exhaust, STi intercooler, and other parts by that time, so a tuning system will help. Then when the parts are on the car I'll take it to the local tuning shop, IAG performance, to get it tuned.

Thanks Chris

While I was eating dinner tonight my step dad told me that they had a problem with my old car. Apparently, the rack and pinion in the legacy is shot, and they can barely move the car. Before I traded it in I was having difficulty turning the wheel past a certain point, but it wasn't hard to control. Looks like I made the right decision, and I'm lucky that she got me safely around town.

Kind of in a slump over what happened last night. When I was driving home last night my dash lights went out, so my friend looked at the fuse for the lights. He found out that it was burnt not blown, and pulled it out with pieces of the plastic still in the fuse box. We later found a blue wire that looked like a aux wire for a sub. So we followed it over to the passenger side and under the carpet. The whole wire from that distance is melted and only the wire itself is there and exposed to other wires. The car is going back to the dealership, and will be repaired before these clumps of wires catches on fire. Let's just say I'm not happy.

I've had a rather unfortunate day. I've noticed the past few days there has been a "clunking" sound coming from the front left tire, and it only happened when I made a hard turn. After I went over a speed bump my steering shook and the car made a loud BANG! I then drove right back to work, jacked the car up, and discovered that my spring was busted. I then hitched a ride from my boss, hopped in my dad's truck, and went to the dealership I bought it from. They were very nice to me, and they are sending a tow truck to pick the car up and replacing anything it needs. This is why I love buying cars from this dealership (even though its Toyota).

So I'm out of my car for a few days while the rex is getting new springs. Here's a picture of what it looked like.

You need to pull this thing apart and find all the issues....

You said they were Tanabe springs, but they're Eibach - and they have a million mile warranty (if you have the purchase receipt).
The subwoofer wire nearly caught you on fire after it grounded out (sounds like)... sheesh.

10-25-2012, 10:36 PM
I've already talked to the used car manager about these issues. I had the car at the shop on Monday to have the wiring issues resolved, but nothing was repaired. More then likely they will replace the broken front springs with stock ones (only the front has lowering springs). As for the other issues these were supposed to be resolved by the previous owner (who is a tech), and he is now in deep water with the shop. Judging by how the manager was talking to me he either fixes the car, or he can help himself to the door.

Damn dude! That blows. At least the dealership is working with you. It might be more a pain to purchase from those places, but you'll never see a private party treat any after-sale mishaps in such a fashion.

A spring broke on my Outback just like that but it got jammed up into the strut top-hat. I drove around like that for what I'm assuming was a little over 1,000 miles.

xoSubieLegacyxo
10-26-2012, 06:26 PM
Judging by the rust on spring where it broke it had been like that way for longer then the 3 weeks of ownership. Today a tow truck came to my work and picked up the car. I'm not sure when it will get fixed, but hopefully soon. I hate driving my dads SUV that gets 10mpg.

Finally had a day off to install/remove some parts. Started off by installing the stock intake and snorkus, and it covered up some of the hideous HID wiring for the pass side headlights. Fixed my boost leak again caused by the previous owner when he simply cut the "T" flange and never closed the line. So I had boost leaking out of the hose, and making a whistling sound. Then took off the hitch that is not needed for my purpose, so I'm trading it to a friend for front and rear strut tower braces. And I still found time to kill some players in black ops 2! lol

Well I have some sad news. Today was a rough day at work, and when I was coming home everything was normal. I make the last turn to my house and it goes into "limp mode" where the car makes zero boost, and I can only shift up to 3k RPMs. I took the car to a friends house to look at it (he's a Subaru tech). After driving around the block a few times it stalls out and doesn't want to turn over. We get it running but it's barely idling. I tried to take it home but it was going 25 mph in 3rd gear and barely revving, so I pulled into the high school and called AAA to tow the car home. Tomorrow morning I'm calling the dealership and telling them what happened and to diagnose the problem. I'm honestly stressed out and in need of a much soothing hug....I miss my legacy :(

It's still at my house. My theory is that the turbo blew up, causing the loss of oil and black tailpipe. I'm just praying that the block is ok.

98legwag

Is there shaft play on the turbo?

xoSubieLegacyxo
02-21-2013, 06:14 PM
Well I sorta feel like an idiot because the issue my car was having was something I could of replaced (so it wasn't the turbo or engine). Apparently the spark plugs are OEM (you got to me fucking kidding me!!!!) and they were replaced. Also when I installed the Y-pipe to the intercooler I messed up and used a longer bolt which made a small crack. Well that crack became a whole, which wouldn't let boost build causing my car to go into "limp mode" and setting off what happened two nights ago. So if I can borrow an intercooler I'll have my car back before the weekend (in time for the meet).

Found some motivation and installed my subwoofer, and dead pedal made by SMK_Fabrication. I had to use an RCA adapter due to my stock stereo, but the sound is the same as an aftermarket headunit. Also cleaned the interior and vacuumed the carpet.

Only took six months! lol

As for the downpipe it seems it was sold before the salesman could ship it out. He even said it was on his desk ready to be sent out. oh well. I might just save my money and make my own custom downpipe. I'm going to use that money and buy a welder with my step dad.

Thanks guys. My week didn't start off on a good note. While driving to work my right rear tire punctured. After I pulled out the 4" nail I decided to break down and buy a new set of wheels and tires. I know I could of just bought a new tire, but I was tired of the 6 spokes. So I bought a set of 18x7.5 Axis Reverbs from a friend.

Last Friday I sold the RS 6 spokes to my good friend whose going to use them on his hybrid bugeye for a little while. I picked up four new tires for the AXIS wheels. 4 Brand new Atrezzo Sailun rotational tires for $90 a tire. The price wasn't bad, but when I wait 2 and a half hours for a guy to change my tires, and the fact that other customers got service before me really made me mad at the shop I used. I don't think I'll ever give them the business again, or at least not for a while. Hopefully this week during my time off work I'll install my lowering springs and Rally Armour mud flaps before the big RALLYX in Wellsboro.

Been almost a month since I've updated this. Recently the threat of a bad wheel bearing has been in the back of my head. So I've been driving the legacy the whole time, with little trips to work in the WRX. Today I drove the rex to work, and let's just say that my boss was shocked to see the condition of the wheel bearing when we took the hub off. It had A LOT of play. I took it to my step father's shop, but the tech said that the hub was damaged due to the wheel bearing. So on Monday I'll be ordering a new hub, and getting the local shop to press it in. Hopefully this will end all the lemons for this car (knock on wood).

Finally had a free day in the shop to work on the rex. Brought in my new seasonal wheels and spray them with some leftover paint from a VW and a Dodge. haha thanks everyone. I was looking for a wheel color that I haven't seen in the area, and also had to fit in with the color of my car. We had some paint leftover from a previous job, so I thought "Hey, its free!" and sprayed them over the weekend. haha I need to install my rear lowering springs so the gaps are even from front to back. But its looking a lot better.

Start guessing! Lol

So this week at my work I'm working on a explorer my boss bought that needs fixed. It had a push bar that was, and I asked if I could have it. So now I have some free pieces of tubing to build a lightbar. Since I'm considering selling the outback I guess it will go on the WRX. Haha here's a quick mock up of what I'm imagining.

I've been a busy bee lately. Decided to take off some engine bay dress up pieces and my interior trim pieces and spray them to match the color of my wheels. They turned out pretty well.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/04/u7uqyqen-1.jpg

Also decided to have my bigger top mount inter cooler powdercoated in a hammer finish. Turned out awesome!

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/04/ne2avygu-1.jpg

And while I'm waiting on parts to arrive I'm making two custom pieces for my car. One is a lightbar for the Hellas I bought for my outback. It's originally a pushbar from an explorer but I chopped it up and shortened the sides. Just need to figure out how to mount it.

https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2014/04/7ahumuje-1.jpg

Then here's something never seen before. I took off a piece of my intake that wasn't very useful. And instead of leaving a big gaping hole, I wanted to make a cover so the engine bay looks clean. That too needs to be mounted and will be powder coated the same color as my inter cooler.

On a positive note me and my two friends went to visit Yama. I purchased the STi bumper and Prova Grille while my friend Austin bought the Side skirts and fenders. Pretty exciting to see all the cars in one garage, not to mention all the magazines and car brochures Yama has in the living room. I could of spent all day there!

Well its been a busy and frustrating week. What turned out to be an easy change of parts turned into a week long endeavor. First had to deal with removing the up pipe and down pipe by removing the motor mount nut, and jacking up the one side of the engine. Turns out my mount nut was rounded off, and the special sockets to loosen these nuts and bolts didn't work. So we hammered on a socket one size smaller, and it turned out to be the answer. After that was taken care of I had a stubborn turbo inlet that wouldn't come out of its home. I decided to cut the one hose connection so it could slide out without taking off the manifold. While cutting it with a saw blade I immediately stopped and smelled fuel. Sure enough I just cut a fuel line almost in half with my blade. So a few nights later myself and four friends finished the car by removing the manifold, replacing the fuel line with a used one from a buddys leftover car, and then finished installing my aftermarket parts. Now she is running stage 2 on my Accessport, and I'm in love with the car all over again. I'll post pictures in the morning.

Right now I have the air ducts in primer because there were a lot of stone chips in them. Plus I swapped front bumpers with my friend (he has a similar FMIC as Yama and need to chop up his bumper) and his side pieces were gashed from curb rash. So I'm painting all these pieces sometime in the near future.

The past two days I've been busy prepping the car for a show this weekend. My plan was to install my top mount, and finish my STi door cards. Today the local Subaru dealership delivered my parts I ordered, but I did not get the right parts to finish the door cards. Only one side (my pass rear door) was completed and everything looks great. I'll have to wait until next monday to finish the project. But I did managed to put my top mount on, and the engine bay will look great!

This past weekend was a blast! For the first time this year I entered my Subaru into two car shows in my hometown with a club I was just inducted into called "Xtreme Addictions." The first show was at a body shop, and I placed third in the Subaru category. It was very hot, and I forgot how much work it takes to detail a car. The second show was today at the local Honda dealership where I didn't place, but the club dominated the show, and we took home at least a dozen trophies in all categories. Then we had an after party at a club members house and visited his grandmother with Stage 4 cancer. She loved all the cars and it just made me come to realize who this club is. It's not focused on the cars or winning, but the people we donate money to and help out after the shows are over.

Here are some pictures from yesterday and today.

Also a couple weeks ago my buddy totaled his 04 wrx, and I helped him take off some parts at my work. So I got some goodies as a way of thanks. Complete owners manual and warranty book!

This past weekend I started to fix my Morette headlight covers. My buddy is going to hydro dip them in a CF finish, along with the interior pillar trim, and my stereo trim pieces. Hoping to have everything back in two weeks. I'm also trying to fix the current projector/HID setup to work with my car.

Been upgrading the interior the past few weeks when I get free time, and not working on the truck. Finally finished installing my Sti door cards with the newly purchased window switches, and also threw in my new Kenwood speakers. A few weeks ago I put in my Kenwood Bluetooth and pandora/iheartradio stereo that I'm in love with! I'm waiting for the rest my interior parts to be finished at my buddy's shop getting hydrodipped. I should have it all buttoned up by the mid Atlantic meet.

I wish you had taken a picture of the old hood strapped to your car.... Or a video of your drive back home. I'm sure you were hammering the switchbacks...

I stopped three times to try and tighten the ropes. I even had my hand holding down on the front because it would make a horrible vibration on the highways. I'll never do that ever again! Lol

Well it looks like I'm switching Subarus again. My buddy offered me his 06 spec b, and as long as I sold my car it was mine. A local guy came and paid cash for my car, and hopefully this weekend we'll be transferring the title. I'm going to take some pictures before she goes to her new home. Look for a new MR page for the spec b.

Well the day has arrived when I no longer own a wrx. She was a fun car to drive and a great learning experience. Hope the new owner enjoys her as much as I did.
