Stock brake upgrade?

So upon searching for tire options it was asked if I had the 2.5 front brakes, which would keep the 14" wheels from fitting. Does that mean the brakes off a 2nd gen outback will essentially be an upgrade from my stock 2nd gen 2.2 front brakes?

I think I got a set of brake assemblies in a parts lot I just picked up... if the 2.5 brakes will be an upgrade Ill go that route :grin:
