Does anybody know the speaker clearance for my 2002 legacy L wagon? I'm not sure whether I should get the polk db651 regular or slim versions.

Rear or front?
You can always buy speaker spacers if you want to go with the deep versions. In fact, you may need to depending on how Subaru approached the car audio in the BE/BH models. My 03 Forester doesn't have OEM speaker brackets (the speakers are moulded into the brackets) so you have to buy spacer brackets to make aftermarket work.
you can always go to www.crutchfield.com (http://www.crutchfield.com) and punch in your car's info and let them tell you what fits - I wouldn't trust them 100% though. They say 2 DIN stereos don't work in the BD/BG/BK which is false.

yeah, i've looked at crutchfield and they said the db651s fit fine with the original bracket for my legacy. but i've been reading around and people have said the db651 and db651 have the same magnet sizes and only differ in the depth of the tweeters protruding from the cone.

I installed slim Polk version in front speakers, not taking any chances due to protruding tweeter tower. There is a spacer adapter from factory original speaker pushes the speaker outwards few inches, plus you have to modify the adapter a little in order for Polk to line up with screw holes.
Polk is lack of bass but very clear on high frequency response, I had to turn on LOUD button in my head unit to have good balance.

I decided to go with the Infinity 6032cf and I just bought a front speaker adapter/spacer on eBay. Hopefully everything will come together smoothly when I install them next weekend.
