What do you guys think?
THere is very little info on the 96 LGT, it seems to have a one off engine that they only used for 1 year...

Any info on the specific year 1996 2.5 LGT would be great, Thanks guys

maybe theres not alot of info because nobody goes online to talk about how good their car has always run  lol, they only talk about the problems

thanks guys and wish me luck :smt026

Cars101.com

The 96GT ecu requires 89+RON to run, but changing the ECU to a later model removes that and improves the powerband.

Apart from that, it's your standard Subaru things to watch for.

I went and drove it yesterday
The muffler is shot and while driving I got a CEL P0420 (O2 sensor/emmisions related) I brought my scanner incase
I'm having my garage look at it on wed.

I'm very on the fence though
-milage is good (165 000 km on a 96)
- reason for seller selling is good( they bought a new 2013)
- Original owner
- paint is rough, a little rust but price reflects that (+ im looking to get my hands dirty with this one)

If it needs $700-$1000(or less) worth of work to make it mechanically perfect I'll probly get it.
I'm hoping to get it for $1200. That leaves me hopefully around $2000.
I'll do the body work and paint it myself (flat black) so I should save good $$ there.

It 100% depends on what the garage says though. These '96 2.5GTs are rare and I'd like to see my wife driving it. It even has that sweet detachable GT lip for the old front bumpers that everyone wants :)

BTW - I have a 1998 GT ECU that I am selling. It'll drop right into that 96GT and allow you to run 87RON with the same 165hp, no knocking/pinging etc. Let me know!

I just dropped it off at the garage with the owner and damn it looked good on the road

I hope it checks out, its 100% on the mechanic now

personalised plates?
3RD 25GT?
#3 GT BD?

my hopes are so high lol

on to the next one :(

the mechanic and I stopped calculating at around $2000 worth of work and there was still more to do.

glad I got it inspected before just jumping in and buying.

Like you said, good thing you found out what it needs.
