"Hesitation,bucking and throttle body popping sound" 1995 BK

So my car runs awesome with no issues at all until today i sprayed the valve covers with a spray can of "Gunk" to get some old leaking oil off of them and just high preasure car washed the valve covers and the top of the battery. I drove away and used the car for the rest of the afternoon parked it and went back out around 4pm and now im getting hesitation,bucking and a popping sound (backfire) coming from the airbox or throttle body. Then after driving along going through the manual gears without stepping on the throttle the check engine light comes on and then starts flashing with all of the same simptoms,so im lucky i have another car to use to go to work until i get a chance to drop it off at my mechanic,im wondering if there is anyway to check the engine codes without a scanner or plug in device because on my old dodge i could quick switch the key in the ignition back and fourth and the codes would pop up in the odometer,anybody have any suggestions on this issue? Well, you might have shorted something out, but more likely, there water in some plugs somewhere. I always have funny things happen after driving through a huge puddle or washing the engine. The problems usually go away after driving a little bit, so all the water evaporates.

Try that out. I've done it before on my 99. As I remember correctly there is also a different plug harness with connector wire you can plug into the plug harness that I think you can test ABS codes with.

Thats what i was thinking about the situation,water in the plugs or some electronic sensor because there is one in plain site on the drivers side oil filller area. I was trying to drive it and force it to operate without making it buck and pop and it wasnt too bad when i drove it easy,thanks for your reply....

Hey thanks for your efforts in posting those links hopefully i will figure it out,im going to let it sit until late afternoon tomarrow and run it and see if it changes due to something being wet,im just curious about the check engine light....Thanks again.
