Hello all,
Have been frustrated, tired, confused but content in the past few days with the leggy.
I was having some hesitation issues. Some of which I have had since I've had the car, from starting out, until about 3k rpm the car doesn't pull THAT well, but after 3500rpm or so, the car pulls harder, as if I have a turbo spooling at 3500rpm. (not as drastic as a turbo but you get the idea)
Recently the car was having more of an issue. It was still hesitating but just felt like a loss in power. I was driving the car hard after to see if anything needed to just be passed through, wasnt the case. I have had my plugs, wires and valve cover gaskets in for about 20k miles. Everything has been great until now. I decided to take out my plugs, wires and take a look. I have a little bit of oil in my spark plug sockets, mostly on my drivers side, pass. side was almost clean as whistle. So I will be replacing my gaskets tomorrow. two of my wires werent solid, the part inside was very loose, in fact, one even came completely out. My plugs weren't that worn, but one of which was pretty wet in oil. Changed my plugs, but in new wires and reset my ecu. I was reading the coilpack could be bad in some cases but I checked it and it seemed to be fine so I didn't mess with it. I found a brand new OEM air filter in my garage so I threw that in as well.
Everything feels much better. The power is smooth. Not per say, faster but it pulls much more smooth now. idle will smooth out as I drive on it more.
I have lots of ground wires everywhere as well, so the idle is very good in fact. A very easy and useful mod on older subaru's ive learned.
I don't know if this is common knowledge to others but hopefully for some of those EJ22 users, try doing what I did, and see if it helps at all.
