View Full Version : Question about a 95 brighton SW

I'm gonna be helping a friend on monday go shopping for a transmission, but i "heard" that there's something different about that year but he cant remember what. Is there something specific to that particular year legacy? I know the engine was replaced with a dual port ej22 but im un-sure if that matters. I'm mostly used to turbo legacy stuff

And I did search 95 Legacy brighton transmission, nothing came up for that specific year.

I had a Brighton, now I have an L. Both 95, both 5 speed. The Brighton had rear drums, no rear speakers, no hill assist, no tweeters as far as the motor in 95, same thing, same trans, same rear diff

As a rule, and EJ engine can bolt up to any EJ transmission. If you're swapping manual to manual, it's a pretty easy swap. Auto-->Manual gets a little trickier with wiring, ECU/TCU relationships, and installing the pedal box is a PITA, from what I hear.

Yeah, My first swap was a fwd auto to a 5sp awd. That was before my full turbo conversion. Electrical was a bitch, but it was fun.

Anyways the guy my friend got the Brighton from said he thought there was some casting difference in the specific year of 95. The Brighton hasn't gotten towed to my house yet so i haven't gotten a chance to look at it yet. Since there's verification that nothing is changed, I'm not too worried about sourcing a transmission now.

As far as mounting & the bell housing go, there shouldn't be any difference. IIRC, the only difference in the bell housings on EJ series subarus are the amount of bolts they use. If your engine only has 4 bolt holes and the tranny has 8, don't use 4 of them :lol:
