Importing a car from Canada?

Has anyone done this?

The car I'm trying to bring over has been totaled in B.C. and apparently they cant re-title it. So it has a branded title (makes no matter to me). I was trying to bring it to the US as a parts car for personal use. Does anyone have insight on this?

Oh, I know it wont pass crash test standards or EPA standards since the motor was never in the US also. It's a 1996 so it's not over 25.

I'm just trying to get it over the border without stipulations. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Have them cut the chassis in half. Bring it in as parts. No need to rebrand the title, as it's parts.

If it's just for parts, why couldn't you just put in on a trailer and drive it over?

The car isnt drive-able as of right now, but the end game with it, is to make it drive-able...

If you don't cut the chassis, you'll have to register the VIN on a title. That's how it works.

I would think if you just register the VIN and title as a "track only" vehicle then you can rebuild it and use it on a race track or for show. But you would never get street plates for it unless you can somehow have a state or federal authority to inspect it as a rebuild.

The NHTSA won't allow you to register it on the US roads because it's already been totaled, and they can't crash test other chassis' for safety.

So to do it legally it has to be a show/track only car.

if im understanding you right, your just bringing it over to take the parts off it, not trying to fix and rebuild it and drive it. In which case you shouldnt have any problems, show proof of ownership drag it across the boarder on a trailer.

I was trying to buy a 92 cummins up in canada just because it was like $2000 cheaper for me to drive up there and buy the truck i wanted and drive all the way back home than it was the find the same truck here. But i gave up on trying to save 2 grand, because the process of getting a canada rig registered here (even though the exact same one was already imported here) was just to much of a pain in the ass to deal with.

Sooo.... after talking for about 3-4 hours with Customs, other importers and a couple friends... I think the only way to bring it home would be to do the same thing that had to be done for the Pulsar... Remove motor and cut the car in half... :cry:

I still might do it, but we will see..

Is this a Canadian Domestic Market car? or some other market that made its way to Canada?

It's JDM... The motor was never here and I know the DOT standards will most likely not pass...
