Hi guys just after some quick clarification.
I have at the moment a fwd Subaru liberty sedan. I have a found a wagon really cheap that has great running gear etc. I wanna put the awd gear into my sedan.
Liberty gen 2 (bd legacy)

My questions are
what complications are involved when going from fwd to awd?
Will the rear diff line up in the sedan?
Any other info I should know?

Thanks :)

What transmission do you currently have and what type do you plan on swapping in.

Considering you have your sights set on a donor vehicle you will need more then just the running gear.

(front axles.. not 100% sure if FWD axles can be reused)
Tranny
driveshaft
rear diff
rear crossmember
rear diff "T" brace crossmember
gas tank,
rear struts
lateral links
trailing arms
rear hubs
ebrake cables
rear anti sway bar
ALL NUTS/BOLTS/CLIPS that hold these all together!

Thats just a generic list for all Subaru FWD -> AWD conversion.

Yes you have to change your gas tank.. No its no fun..

But on the bright side you can get away with dropping the entire rear end in 1 shot.

These items can be left bolted together

rear diff
rear crossmember
rear diff "T" brace crossmember
rear struts
lateral links
trailing arms
rear hubs
ebrake cables
rear anti sway bar

Let us know if you need more info.

Make sure the rear carage will bolt up...

Chuk has the list pretty complete...

subaru is pretty good to us, atleast in the us, im assuming all other markets are just as lucky. but they take the one shell and drill it for everything. IE, automatics have all the manual extra bolts predrilled. the 2wd imprezas are all predrilled for the 4wd stuff etc. so it should be a simple matter as removing the plugs, and bolting it all on.

forgot to mention.. if your going from a 5MT FWD to 5MT AWD you will need the AWD shifter linkage.. IIRC... that is
