brake backing plates?

My mechanic called them brake backing plates, on my 2001 Legacy L they are all rusted out and i can't seem to find
any replacements searching with "backing plate," If anyone knows the proper name or location of where i can get these it
would be greatly appreciated. Disc on inside of brakes preventing road debris from ruining brakes.

Do you have any pic? It sounds like a brake dust shield but its spot welded on it. You can run without the brake dust shield since alot of people remove them when they upgrade to bigger brakes
