So my 98 2.5 MT Legacy simply died on me, like 3 weeks ago, I haven't had time to try to fix it yet but I'm going to this weekend. I was having some fun on a muddy road, heard a bang from the exhaust (like when left over gasoline goes into the hot headers and cat) and the car died. Had to have the car towed because it wouldn't start.

There's no spark. I checked the coil connector and there's no negative signal or pulse coming.

Fuel pump and fuel injectors are working. The fuses are all good.

My oil pressure switch needs and will be changed. I didn't look for broken wires yet.

What could cause the ECU to not send electric signal to the coil? Any help would be appreciated.

Uh oh!

First, check for CEL codes. I'm guessing it could be the ignitor or coil pack.

Yeah I forgot to mention that I didn't use the OBD yet.

Your guess was right anothernord, the connector on the ignitor was disconnected. Took me almost a day to find it thought since I was checking the crank and cam sensors and wiring. Only when I took the huge plastic intake I found it. At least I did an electric revision on the car. haha

Thanks man.

Lesson learned: always check your connector.
