Those of you who have 5-speed Legacys with a 3.90 final drive.

How slow is it? I know Mark has a 3.90 in his Outback Wagon, and he said it was OK.

My Forester gets shitty mileage and I've been thinking of ditching the 4.44:1 for a 3.90.

What kind of gas mileage are you guys getting?

Averages for mileage is probably 22-25 in the winter, 24-28 in the summer.

As you mentioned, I don't think it's very slow at all. The difference between 4th and 5th is quite large, so I'm almost inclined to think that the difference between the 4.11 and the 3.9 is 5th gear only. AND I have an EJ22.

In case you guys are wondering, 3.90 FD came on 90-96 5MT Legacys only. I'm not clear on the SS however.

Oh, and the WRX has a 3.9 also, but that's a different bag of tricks

The 5mt SS is 3.9.
