So I went out to my auto legacy outback 98, and i wanted to put a diffrent shifter on it (one from my maunal car). The thing is that when i took the auto shifter of i noticed that the white stick in the middle (guessing the saftey switch) dosent stick up high enough fron the metal to put this shifter on there to where it is able to stay on there and be able to push down to shift the car into gear. SO my question is can i remove that plastic pice which im guessing is the safty thing or can i cut down on the metal a little bit so more of the white stick is exposde to beable to fit the shifter on there and have enough room to shift it with out the metal getting in the way. I know this is kinda a dumb mod/whater you wana call it but i would just like to put this shifter in my car. Thanks for the help and thanks for putting up with my stupidity

I have not yet seen anybody be able to switch an AT shift selector with a Manual shift knob.
It sounds like a lot of work for something that isnt really gaining you anything.
Not only that... but if you permanently engage that white piece... you risk bumping your transmission into reverse or park while driving down the road. Not sure if permanently engaging that piece would also still require the brake to be pressed to go into reverse or park... but I can see how it might happen on accident.

Harryman: I wasnt thinking of perment, but cutting some metal off around the white part. That way i can still use the features of haveing to press down and not knock it out of gear. Im just wondering if anyne has done it.
Anothernord: sorry I was in a hurry this morning, I'll try harder next time.
