I recieved 04 wrx wagon struts and springs off my friends wrx (he just put coilovers on his), The plan is to put them on my 99 outback but before I do, im making sure I have all my ducks in a row... Most of the people ive seen that used wrx suspension to lower their outback using the wrx strut but they change the springs, is anyone running 04+ wrx struts and springs? Also the struts have 90000ish miles on them so they are not too worn but when I looked at them there was only two tophats my friend said that there are only top hats on the rear not the front due to the rubber bushing on them. Im just worried that these sturts are not going to be able to fit.

ANd I have one last concern and that is the amount of drop, does anyone know exactly how much drop im looking at? ive seen the amount of drop poeple have had with wrx strut and lowering springs but ive never seen a full blown wrx strut and spring install. Also, will I need the saggy but spacers even if they are take offs from a wagon? And if so where is the best place to buy the correct spacers?

Please help! thanks!

Your friend is mistaken.

All macpherson suspension'd Subaru's have front top-hats. How else does the assembly stay together when it's installed?

You will probably drop maybe half an inch with the factory 04 WRX suspension. Maybe.

Paranoid Fabrications make the spacers.

whoops, I have been mistaken, I did not mean that there is only two top hats with the stuts, I meant to say top hat covers. The top hat covers are only on the rear right? because on the front top hats there is that big rubber bushing? And will I forsure need saggy butt spacers? I plan on doing the swap this weekend

All four struts have top hats.
On the rear in the wagon there is a metal cover that sits over the rear top hats and over that is the plastic interior trim piece... that metal part might be what you are referring to.

I don't know if you'll need spacers. You can never really be sure until the suspension is installed.

I don't think you're going to get a drop with Wrx wagon suspension. Stiffer rates, and damping; but drop not so much

I got about a half inch to 3/4 inch drop on WRX wagon suspension. 02 springs and GR2s. It is noticeably stiffer and has much better damping. Its a great upgrade.
