According to weather.com's 10 day forecast (which cannot be very accurate this far out of course) they are predicting snow on the 22nd in Laurel :(

Peeked in on this thread - you bozos complaining about the weather make me laugh! You have Subarus, AWD! You laugh in the face of snowflakes, crushing them beneath spinning rear tires as they gasp for traction. This is what you want! A snowmeet with compulsory "hey I'm here!" drifting.
Sheesh.

Well, yeah. That's all well and good, but my primary concern (I think it's the same for others) is the salt that gets put down during inclement weather. I don't care about the weather itself. Hell, I drove a Suzuki Cappuccino as a DD during the dead of winter in northern Japan (where they don't plow/clear the roads at all).
But the East Coast is the home of Mr Salt. Mr Salt brings his friend Mr Rust, and that guy is a D-bag.

I've got my eye on the weather, specifically an unusual weather pattern crossing over Texas right now that might turn into an ice storm and disturb some of VA and MD on the 21st and 22nd. I don't think it will affect us at all since it will come before the meet it should be more in southern MD, but it is something to watch out for.
Yamazaki
02-16-2013, 07:18 PM
Well, so far all the bad weather has been above or below Columbia, even if it was forecasted for Columbia. There hasn't been salt on the roads here for a few weeks now.
Like I said before, I don't care about snow (I had to use the S401 as a DD for two years in Northern Japan). So even if there's a little snow, as long as no salt gets put down I don't really mind bringing out the S401. However, there would be no shenanigans, which really waters down the "S401 experience".

I've never even washed mine. Lol been meaning to do that but nasty weather always seems to be right around the corner.
On another note, is the list on the first page up to date on what needs to be brought? I am definitely going to make it now and will bring whatever is needed. I think I saw hotdogs were still needed but can bring whatever if someone can just let me know. I can stop at SAMs club on my way down.

Very cool!
Also, I'm starting to think I should move the meet to the larger parking lot to the left of the entrance. We are definitely going to have more than 26 cars. The only reasons I don't want to leave our current lot are the fact that it is a circle, which is a really cool meet layout, and we also have a really cool location overlooking the river. But we don't have enough spots as it is now, and I can't remember for sure if the other lot has a grille.
Thoughts? Especially from the guys who know the park better than I do.

Okay so I stopped by the park today and man was it gorgeous! Hope it looks the same way on Saturday (knocks on wood). I explored the two spots with grills. The first spot we planned before having more people is the best in my opinion.. It's just a matter of fitting everyone up there haha. It has an awesome view of the water and the pavilions are all right next to the cars. Perfect spot, but may be too small (27 spots and two handicap).

The next spot over is also a good one even though we aren't that close to the water. It has plenty of parking and pavilions with grills. However, we will all be chilling farther away from our cars, but it isn't too far I think. Plus It is more likely to not be filled up with other people on the weekend.

Keep in mind, if anyone gets to the first place before us, that removes those spots until they leave. I personally don't have a problem with being further from our cars because the meet will be pretty focused on the members anyway, but what do you guys think?

With Chad possibly not having a car now and Nick not being able to make it, it looks like that cuts the vehicle turnout down to 23, not counting people bringing vehicles not on the list on the first page. For that reason, I'm going to take a gamble and keep it in the first area with the nice view and closer pavilions.

Well, lets get a poll. How many people will be seriously affected if we change to sunday? I can say we'll definitely be down at least one car (my girlfriend's). Who else wouldn't be able to make it?
I won't be seriously considering changing the date until 2-3 days out, but even then, I likely won't change it unless I get overwhelming support for a date change.
Remember, we will have up to 3 pavilions will roofs as well.

Yeah I'm still pretty strongly against switching to sunday myself. It'll probably be a little wet on Saturday, but I really don't think it will be much worse than some rain. Worst case scenario, we could just do what Chad said (and has been doing successfully all winter); meet for a little bit, then go somewhere for a group lunch.
As of right now, weather forecasts are all over the place. Some predict snow (highly unlikely), some predict a winter storm the day before, some predict pretty fair weather. Right now the "official" forecast from weather.com predicts 43º and a 50% chance of rain.

Damn, I forgot for a moment we were bringing our own food.
We've got 2 options here. The default will be to continue with our original plan. The other option is to scrap everyone bringing food and just go out to eat somewhere. Any opinions here?

It's so tempting to post a couple pictures up from today. I guess I'll wait patiently for the dedicated thread... :) I had a great time, it was nice to see/meet everyone!
EDIT: Just saw it...I should look at things more closely

It was great to meet old and new faces, it was well worth being up 30 hours straight  That little drive at the end was nice as well, the rain made it all the better I think :)

I also had a blast as the head chef cooking up the food. It was great to see the local members and meet some of you I only know by your avatar or car. Hopefully the next meet I will have a Legacy of some sort so I can feel somewhat in the loop. lol

Me too. In warmer, clear weather. Then I could get a chance to speak/meet with more people. :smt006

It was definitely the best Subaru meet I have ever been to. Not just an hp/ jdm pissing contest.

The meet really was a blast. I just wish it had been dry and sunny. I would like to show what the S401 can do (even as an 11 yr old car) sometime.
I also didn't get to properly meet everybody, and for that I would like to apologize to those I didn't get to speak with. That was another reason I wanted to be able to give rides- I'd have a chance to talk one-on-one with anybody who was willing to go for a ride and chat.

I'm pretty sure it would excel in the wet too. It's an Subaru, right?
Glad to hear things went well. One day I'll actually be able to attend these kinds of things.
I better get on with making some new club decals...
