No rain date is scheduled (and probably won't be scheduled) due to the distance some members will have to travel, and the fact that they may have to take off work in advance. Weather shouldn't be much of a problem if we plan to get a pavilion.

I hadn't thought of that, but I am more than happy to have a 1 or 2 CT or RI people ride with me. It would be nice to split the cost of gas ;)

Just because this is going to be about a 10-12 hour drive, I am likely going to get a hotel room down there depending on where it is, probably in Laurel, MD as I am a fan of the Holiday Inn there, and I have a friend who lives in Columbia who I will go see either before or after as well. Being that this will also likely be on a weekend, I will have my daughter along for the ride as my wife works on the weekends.

I think its safe to say RUbie_25GT and Hinyo would be in. The both live in the general area you're talking about.

The only restriction that I have centers around the holiday coming up. The weekend after Thanksgiving is no good as I am going to be doing a Thanksgiving meal part two with some friends. Other than that, as of right now anyways.. my weekends are completely free for the rest of the year.

I will update this as time goes on, but that is how it stands right now.

According to what I remember about Yama's availability, I'm thinking it might have to wait until sometime in January anyway. I think he only has one free weekend between now and January, and that might be too soon to get things organized.

Okay, I currently have nothing on the plate for next year either! :)

98legwag
11-15-2012, 08:51 AM
Definitely. Do you know of any good areas to hold this meet?

I know of a few in Montgomery County. I will talk to Hinyo and Rubie_25GT to find some in Howard County.

amgarrety
11-15-2012, 09:10 AM
Ok. Montgomery county isn't too far away, so if they can't find anything, that might not be so bad.

98legwag
11-15-2012, 09:36 AM
Are we looking for a park, restaurant, or some other type of place?

98legwag
11-15-2012, 01:41 PM
Hinyo suggested the dam by Rubie_25GT's house. He said it has a place to grill and some boat docks. Plus there are a few fun roads out there. I believe its Liberty Dam.

Rubie_25GT
11-15-2012, 02:08 PM
Yes Liberty Dam or Centennial Park are both good places to have car meets. both have grills and the park has sheltered picnic tables and what not :smt023

amgarrety
11-15-2012, 02:32 PM
I'm really liking the location of Centennial Park.

Yamazaki
11-15-2012, 03:06 PM
Centennial Park, hell yes. That's even close enough that I can probably bring all three cars (by doing some ferrying), and I'm not scared to bring the S401.

Are there places to grill there? If so, that'll keep the [hopefully finished] Blitzen at the meet longer (otherwise the wife'll likely get bored and leave with it).
Oh, and I'll have a new "improved" interior for the S401 by then.

Thank you Rubie!

98legwag
11-15-2012, 03:13 PM
I'm down for which ever. Centennial is a few mins closer for me!

amgarrety
11-15-2012, 03:21 PM
Centennial Park it is. Do we need any reservations?

Also, Yama, if you need to be driven back and forth to get your cars, I can do that. That way your wife doesn't have to come if she doesn't want to. Although I'm definitely looking for a place with grilles so we can cook.

Rubie_25GT
11-15-2012, 05:27 PM
As far as I know you don't have to make reservations because it is a public park. But I'll see if we can do that just in case

Rubie_25GT
11-15-2012, 05:38 PM
So you can reserve the pavilion but I don't see anything about reserving parking. Though Hinyo and I could block spots off with traffic cones

Hinyo
11-15-2012, 08:18 PM
Problem with Centennial Park you have to rent the piers with the grills and shelter and bathrooms. Which is fine but we gotta set a date to do that. if we are going to be in Centennial Park. there should be plenty of parking and i can show you guys a few of the back roads in the area for a romp or 2.

Hinyo
11-15-2012, 08:19 PM
Liberty Damn is more scenic in terms of nice pictures but not much around the area to do necessarily.

amgarrety
11-15-2012, 08:32 PM
The main reason I picked Centennial over Liberty is pretty much just keeping in mind that the S401 is not registered, and because of that, I just went for the closest one.

So we can't use the pavilions at all if we don't reserve them? The only reason I ask is because I don't see all of the pavilions being reserved in February. We can probably grab an empty one if they wouldn't mind.

rkrenicki
11-16-2012, 07:47 AM
Centennial Park, hell yes. That's even close enough that I can probably bring all three cars (by doing some ferrying), and I'm not scared to bring the S401.

I would be available to ferry as well, its the least I can do!

The only question I have is that this is obviously an outdoor venue in February.. If this were CT, I would not be planning on decent weather, but I do not know enough about MD to know what to expect weather wise.

Otherwise, I would not mind reserving one of the sites. The rate is not unreasonable, and that way we would absolutely have a spot to do this.

Alright, I'm looking at Saturdays in February. We have Feb 2, Feb 9, Feb 16, and Feb 23.

Anyone not available one of those days? I'm voting to hold the meet Feb 2, just because it is the closest :P

Yamazaki
11-23-2012, 05:20 PM
I can do any of those. 2nd is fine, but won't it be kind of cold?

amgarrety

amgarrety
11-24-2012, 02:30 PM
We could go to the last weekend in February, hopefully that would feel a little more spring like. So the 23rd.

Yamazaki

Like I said, I can do any of those. So 23rd is good too.

amgarrety
11-25-2012, 02:07 AM
Just updated the first post with those who said they were interested, as well as adding the date of Feb 23. It might still be early to take off work for that date specifically, but that is looking like a pretty agreeable date so far. I also want to point out that there is no rain date planned. That has a lot to do with the distance some members are traveling and them having to take off work in advance. If the weather is impossibly bad, we can see about pushing it to the 24th, but with possible plans of getting a pavilion, we can at least all stay dry and hang out if there is some less than awesome weather on the 23rd.

So far this is looking to be a great meet. With the exception of the first generation, it looks like all generations of the Legacy will be represented at the meet! A great time to bring your cameras and grab some awesome pictures. Among these cars should be some rally cars, some show cars, some beautifully stock cars, the S401, possibly a Blitzen6, and an STI swapped BE, joined of course by some friends in other Subaru models.

If you're on the edge about attending this meet, I wouldn't miss it. It is starting to shape up to be something really cool.

MRLancaster
11-25-2012, 08:24 AM
I will be taking A LOT of pictures, but I want everyone to be aware, I will be selecting one of each generation to line up at some point to do a family tree shot. As such.

I'm guessing that means you're bring the new Legacy? Seeing as I think you have the only 5th gen coming.

rkrenicki
11-25-2012, 10:38 AM
If you do not want to define a rain date on my account, I can easily arrange two hotel stays, and just cancel the other one that I do not end up needing.

There are also people coming from WV and Virginia, so just to keep things as simple as possible, we'll try to avoid rain dates. Like I said, weather shouldn't be an issue if we have a pavilion. I mean, what is the worst that could happen, snow? We have AWD for that

Lol it's not far for me. I drive that twice a day.

Yamazaki
11-27-2012, 05:07 PM
This current weather just reminded me... if it's not dry, the S401 stays in the garage. That being said, the Impreza (who really cares about that anyway) and the "Blitzen6" are all-weather.

rkrenicki
11-27-2012, 05:29 PM
I can completely understand that one!

Yamazaki
11-28-2012, 03:54 PM
So after thinking about it, I've decided to sell rides in the S401 at the meet at $3/ride. Proceeds go to the site (SL-i).
The rides will be one passenger at a time. I've tried 5 passengers in the car at the same time before and it's a little underwhelming compared to what it's actually capable of.

Again, this is all null and void if the weather isn't nice.

amgarrety
11-28-2012, 04:18 PM
I like that idea. An SLi meet that gives back to the site. Just made the announcement, contingent on good weather.

Even though, I'll hand wash it for you if it rains :P

Okay, so far I have Tanner, Tyler and his Dad, Eric, and myself meeting in Lovingston. If anyone else from VA wants to meet up there let me know.

Elicott city is just over 3 hours from Lovingston, so to play it safe, I'd say we meet in lovingston right around 8:00am, that way bathroom breaks, etc. won't put us too far behind. I'd be cool with meeting up earlier or even a little later than that if you guys want to, just let me know.

Big thanks to Hinyo for looking into the pavilions. Here is some info.

Pavilions are free during the winter months, and they are first come first serve. I don't think that will be much of a problem. With that, all donations can go directly to SLi, which will be nice. Park bathrooms will not be open, but port-o-potties should be available. There are probably other options close by (such as gas stations) if necessary.

Also, we'll have grilles to take advantage of, so lets have food! Hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks, all that fun stuff. If you can donate food, drinks, condiments, cups, ect., let me know. I'll definitely have a cooler with ice, and I'll likely toss in an assortment of 2-liters.

Things we will probably need:
Hamburgers
Hotdogs
Buns
Ketchup
Mustard
Other Condiments?
Plastic Utensils
Cups
Plates
Chips & Snacks (optional dip)

Anything else I'm forgetting, let me know.

Also, I'm going to change some of the stuff I'm bringing since some people have things covered.

First post updated with some new information! In short, Steve of SMK Fabrication will be attending the meet, getting to know the community, sharing some knowledge, and also selling/taking orders for dead pedals. This is a great opportunity for those who want to see the product before they buy, and you'll get to know exactly who is behind SMK Fabrication, a nice peace of mind after some previous group buys here  He's a cool guy, and I'm extremely happy to have him attending the meet.

I didn't make a Facebook page for this event because I kind of wanted to keep it restricted to SLi members and friends of members. I can make a Facebook event, but my fear is the event getting bigger than the space we can get. Also I don't want people showing up who think they are better than us. It's not a "who has th biggest balls meet", its a meet and greet for east coast SLi members. I don't care who attends, but I don't necessarily want a bunch of NASIOC and LGT members grouping up coming to the meet.

I favor an SLi only meet because I'd also like to meet people. I don't want to be making runs in the S401 all day...

And yeah, people outside the community turns into a c*** fight instead of a constructive meet-and-greet. I'd like to meet the Legacy enthusiasts. If I wanted the other thing, I would just go to generic car meets. (I was going to say NASIOC or I-Club, but I've been to some of those meets with good people)

Most likely the Outback because it is a Legacy and its driveable right now. The SVX is going to need some minor electrical tweeking and such to be able to be driven normally.

But the impreza and 05 and newer legacy guys think that its nothing. I have a wrx too. I get the thumbs up when i drove it or the hands up. I get nothing when i drive the legacy and its way nicer then my wrx. The only reason i bought the wrx was because of the power. I am a legacy guy... I like to be different everybody has an impreza... The thing that sucks now i have no time to work on the legacy. Car meets are good when you get a nice crowd. Most WRX people think there is no other subaru....

Guys, don't get your expectations up too much. You'll be sorely disappointed. It's only rated at 293 brand new (it's 11 years old!). And that's not at the wheels... And sure it handles nicely, but it isn't a track racer. So just expect a nice car, but don't expect a magical beast of a machine. You will understand if you ride in it. It's an amazing feel.

I'm going to post this here instead of making a new thread for it, but we'll see how things go.

Many of you know Robin (Dead91silvia). He's posted in this thread a few times. He's got some very nice cars, including one special one, a '96 GT-B that he cut in half, imported to the US, and welded back together. That is his current project, and it is stunning. Check it out if you haven't already. (http://www.sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=26253)

Anyway, Robin is a very good friend of mine, as well as some other people on the forum. He is a very cool guy, and the amount of knowledge he has regarding automotive restorations and repair is incredible. He had the chance to fly in from his home state of Washington for the New England meet this past year, and it was a great time. Well we would like to bring him to the MD meet so he can meet more of the east coast members who couldn't make it to New England, and you can pick his brain a bit about his current projects, including that GT-B, which has gotten quite a bit of attention since he brought it into the US.

The only problem is cash. Plane tickets from the west coast to the east coast aren't cheap. We've already worked out all of the small stuff such as where he would stay if he flew in and all that, so the plane ticket is the only thing left to fund. He made a deal though, if someone can fund half the plane ticket (about $200), he'll fly over for the meet.

I think it's worth every penny to get him over here, but I can't put down $200 by myself. So I wanted to see if you guys could help chip in with a donation to the "Fly Robin to the east coast for the MD Meet" fund. It doesn't matter what amount you choose to donate. If you'd like to donate, message me directly and we'll work something out. Any donations will be subtracted from the $200, and hopefully we can get the other half of his plane ticket paid off early so he can get the best price for his seat.

I'm going to start with a $20 donation, so only $180 to go.

I'd like to emphasize a point here. The S401 isn't great because it has a twin turbo'd STI engine. It is great because of the engineering that went into it. You finally get to see more than just the face value of this car when you get to see it in person, and you'll feel that engineering when you ride in it. Instead of focusing on how much you get pressed back in the seat, focus on the non-existant turbo lag/valley of death, the comfortable suspension that suddenly becomes rigid when you take a corner at high speed, and the overall feeling that you only get from a car that was designed to the best ability of the engineers who made it. There is a reason there are only a handful of S-series Subarus. It is quite a special car. Think less about the engine, and more about the car overall, and you'll not only appreciate the ride more, but you'll appreciate the level of expertise that Subaru is really capable of, which is something we don't get to see here in the US. Ever.

First, I would like to thank rkrenicki and 98legwag for their donations toward bringing Robin over here for the meet. With their donations, $70 was knocked off of the goal. Only $110 to go! Talk about awesome progress.

Also, start time for the meet is 12pm. I originally decided on 11, but I want to give another hour for those people who have a good distance to travel and plan on doing that traveling the day of the event. As for an end time, there really isn't one set.

As for a location, I might try to drive down there today or tomorrow and find the best spot within the park to hold the meet. I haven't been there yet myself, so I hope to find a definite spot while I am there.

Less than a month!

Also, I just wanted to clarify, Robin (Dead91Silvia) is definitely coming to the meet (his ticket is purchased), so thanks to those of you who donated! We bought the ticket with $40 left to cover though. Is there anyone who can help cover those last few bucks? Even $5 to chip away at what is left

Again, thanks to those who donated, and this meet is looking like it will be pretty cool. I'm really excited, and just hoping we don't have so many cars that we fill our area too fast, because I don't really have a backup plan for that situation. But the turnout is looking much better than I was expecting when I created this in the first place! So far the following states are looking to be represented:

MD, PA, NY, CT, NJ, VA, WV, and WA

And it looks like all 5 generations of Legacy should be there too. Not to mention one of the rarest Legacies ever made (imported straight from Japan), a few US D-type conversions, and some cars with pretty cool JDM goodies. And this is the first time a lot of the east coast SL-i members are finally getting together, if I'm not mistaken.

I'm obviously ready for this meet.

Took a trip down to Centennial Park today to get an idea of the layout, and I think we are going to set the meet at Pavilion E. Graphic below (follow the red line). Here are some pictures of the actual place. I counted 26 parking spots, so hopefully they will all be open and we won't have to place people elsewhere.

I just looked at Google Maps and it looks like there is another parking lot really close. I'm guessing we are going to have more than 26 cars.

Which lot are you talking about? The lot to the left of ours in the map I posted in the first post of this thread is a boat launch area and is reserved for boat parking only, but I don't know if they enforce that during the winter. There definitely was a cop patrolling while I was there though. The lot to the right is probably free but it is a bit far away.

Hey, for the people coming to this meet, I have a pair of leather front seats I'd be willing to bring with me and let go dirt cheap. The passenger one has a rip in the side bolster, but other than that they are in good condition. If anyone is interested I'll bring them. If not, onto Craigslist they go.

Also, I can bring various switches, small trim pieces, etc. if anyone needs them.
