View Full Version : EJ22 1996 Legacy L start up problem, and others.

It says my check engine is on, but last time I checked it was something about my radiator electric wiring. But what my concern is my legacy seems to not want to start, battery is fine, alternator is too, but every time I try to start it just cranks, but doesn't turn on unless I step on the gas and turn it on.. My brake light on my dashboard seems to be on as well even though my E-brake isn't up.. I installed new NGK spark plugs too so I don't know what's the deal? :shock: Is it because the weather is getting colder? When it starts it's louder than normal..

emergency brake light indicates 2 thigns
1) low brake fluid level
2) ebrake is active.

If you have the battery light and the ebrake light on then its your battery.

Subarus are notorious for sounding rough when they start in cold tempratures. Some show signs of piston slap or the dreaded sowing machine ticking. These noises go away once coolant temps rise to their proper levels.

I understand that you checked your code prior to this issue but for the sake of diagnostics can you pull your codes again and post them please.

Okay, so, lately my car has been having start up problems, I'm not sure why. It chokes, and when I step on the gas to start it, it starts but faintly, it usually dies, but after a few tries it starts. I'm not sure what the problem is, but any suggestions?

turn the key to the on position but not start, and wait 10 seconds.
turn it back to off and turn it back to on and again wait 10 seconds.
crank it over and see what happens.

That's probably not it, but it's worth a shot.
