Next September I decided to go to UTI to become an auto/diesel tech. To prepare my car for the road ahead I want to build a motor that can give me three things, decent power, fast spool, and reliability so I don't need to dump money into it while I'm at school. These are my plans to reach those goals.
New from Subaru EJ257 Short Block.
9.0:1 CP Forged Pistons
EJ205 Heads
STi Cams
Rotated WRX Intake manifold
Ported TGVs
1,000cc Injectors
Tomioka Racing TD06-20G Twin Scroll Turbo Kit (turbo, headers, up-pipe, downpipe)
STi V Mount Intercooler/Radiator Kit
Perrin Inlet Hose
Walbro 255Lph Fule Pump
Before you ask, the reason I am using all the WRX parts is I already have them and it will save me a lot of money.
This is why I chose these parts.
Power:
My power goal is to make around 350whp-400whp.
Not a hard goal to achieve so I'll move on without explaining parts.
Fast Spool.
20G twin scroll. The 20G will put me in my power goal while the twin scroll will allow the bigger turbo to reach full boost by 3500RPM.
9.0:1 pistons. This CR will allow me to have more power out of boost while not going over bored and hurting my reliability.
V mount intercooler. A V mount will allow me to use less piping (less lag) while still getting the same amount of air as a FMIC. The reason I am not using a TMIC is UTI is in Arizona so I can use any extra air I can get.
Rotated intake manifold. This will let me use even less piping which again takes away lag.
Reliability:
New STi short block. This will give me a motor that I know hasn't been beaten on.
I decided not to build the block because once you open it up you loose the reliability that Subaru is known for. Also at 400whp I am not concerned about the factory rods or bearings.
CP pistons. One thing that the STi motors fall short on is pistons. Pistons are the only thing I would be worried about with the hp I plan on running so I will swap factory for forged.
I won't be building this motor till the end of next summer when I have money from fishing but I will update this thread when I build it. I decided to make the thread now so I can get your input on it and to see what you would do differently. Thanks in advance.
