While at the salvage yard I happened upon a 3rd gen leggy wagon and I like the setup of the newer shifters, which got me thinking... is it possible to swap the 3rd gen shifter into a 2nd gen wagon?

Auto or manual? Assuming auto, you can probably just remove and replace your shifter. Unless your talking about the sportshift that it has then I doubt it without using the transmission and wiring for it.

Yea, I meant the auto sorry, and this (http://www.google.com/imgres?q=03+legacy+shifter&start=233&num=10&hl=en&tbo=d&biw=1093&bih=538&tbm=isch&tbnid=ASTuBUGJS5vkMM:&imgrefurl=https://sl-i.net/FORUM/viewtopic.php%3Ff%3D8%26t%3D21450&docid=_fFBhxFyGpu2nM&imgurl=http://buyersguide.caranddriver.com/media/eVox/stills_0320/3758/3758_st0320_055.jpg&w=320&h=240&ei=dAepUJuHL6PU0gHEt4CICw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=405&vpy=168&dur=4228&hovh=192&hovw=256&tx=151&ty=134&sig=113721255426329863974&page=12&tbnh=136&tbnw=181&ndsp=20&ved=1t:429,r:50,s:200,i:154) is more like what I was looking at, not the tiptronic/autostick setup but it just looks cleaner without the button to shift out of park.
