This was my very first real Subaru.. I did own a Subaru wagon from the early 80s for a very short time, but I never got it registered due to transmission leaks and a rotting frame, so I do not really count that one.

My boss and HR manager at the time both owned early 2000's Foresters, and when I was in the market for a new car, I had asked for their thoughts on their Fozzies. Due to their overwhelming recommendation for them, I decided to go ahead and buy this 1998 Forester L. I knew very little about Subaru at that point, and was unaware of the EJ25D issues that I was bound to have, and what that shudder was when turning tightly (torque bind!! :()

I did nothing to this car, except change out the stereo, change the oil fairly regularly, and top off the coolant often. I do not have a whole lot of information as to how many miles were on the car or any real service history, but I drove the car as my daily driver for about a year before I noticed bubbles in my coolant. Who knows how long it was doing that..

I fairly quickly found out that this engine was doomed to have head gasket problems, and I did not have $2000 to get it fixed, so I just keep the coolant topped off until I lost Cylinder 3 nearly a year later. At that point, I was poor and needed a car fast and I found the BJ4 for $500 that started me on my road of Legacies!

But, enough jibber-jabber.. here are the three photos that I found so far.

I never get tired of seeing Fozzys that are covered in mud.

Sad story.. but its always nice to see brand loyalty.
