Subaru made the tiptronic transmission for the 3rd gen legacy right? I recall seeing it but I dont know if it was from a 3rd or 4th gen.. Thinking about my future swap, everyone goes with a 5spd I wanna do something different. Probably a frankenmotor with the tiptronic tranny in a 2nd gen wagon. I was going to swap out again with the current pandaru but Im thinkin get a twin sister for it :grin:

That being said, I DO know that the 2005+ Baja Turbo came in an Automatic with the manual shifting ability and those are basically 3rd gen legacies in the front but up to 2006 :D

Correct, Bajas got it after a certain year, and I believe some late '04 Legacies may have gotten it as well. And I'm fairly certain that is was an option over in Japan for the later years of the BE and BH (possibly 01-02).

You do know that Tiptronic's are all in the electronics right? I can and do manually shift my 98 when I'm messing around in the twistys. Also I have never seen a 3rd gen with one. Only the 4th gen.

Im aware the electronics are different, the tcu and the shifter are wired up together, the +/- in manual mode tells the computer to shift the transmission when you hit the selector.

I did some research and subaru (usdm) unveiled their 4speed and 5 speed manumatic "sportshift" transmissions in 2004, on the turbo and h6 models.. fat chance of me finding one of them in the salvage yard :roll:

You guys are getting transmission mixed up.. You're talking about the new 5EAT (5 speed Electric Automatic Transmission) .. that the 05+ Legacy started to use.

The 4EAT Tiptronic were used in 2004 when subaru introduced them in the 2004+ Impreza and Forester. I believe the cut off was 2007 but I have not researched this enough.

IIRC JDM 2001 and EURO 2002 began using the 4EAT Triptronic.

Harry, The trans are different from your 99 to my 98, even thought they are basically the same car. Yes they are different, but also the same in many ways...

And Over a dozen for 04 H6 W/VDC from $650-1200... They are out there if you know where to look.

99 was the switch over year for the BE/BH equipment. Many BD/BK/BG came with BE/BH 2000' 5MT and 4EAT.. booooo!

The 99-up shifts a little different (smoother they say) and I dont like it. I like to know when my car shifts! :smt023

On the flip side, you should only need a few parts to make any of the others work in any other car.

Any motor $180+tax, any transmission $150+tax, no matte what its pulled from. You pull it yourself tho. Thats how everything started was going back to find the car I bought my motor from, I was looking into a 3rd gen that had a better looking shifter setup. When I tried looking it up online I saw a subaru center consol with the manumatic shifter. Thats when the "IwantIwantIwant" started. Ive driven the tiptronic 2006 madza 3 and it was fun.

I heard about the power/sport mode pinout on the tcu, and plan on having that switched before I roll the car out. I want a tiptronic for a near-future project.

HA! Yeah, I will just say good luck getting one for that price. If you do, thats awesome, but I' have never been that lucky.

Its a u-pull-it in worcester, ma. I believe its Sams pick n pull. Like I said, thats where I got my motor, I think it was $190 after tax. We also pulled a lariat v8 for a 2001 f150 XLT for the same price. And for $500 we got the entire front clip of a 2000 Ford Focus, and I mean complete front clip.. dash, air bags, steering wheel, motor/trans, axles, brakes, exhaust and ofcourse lights, bumper, hood and fenders. Everything. Full leather interior from a 2007 Mazda 3 was a whopping $75. Anyone in the area of worcester, ma Id recommend this place to, Im a couple hours away and we still make the trip.

Sounds like a great deal! I would like to get my hands on a donor car myself.. a few parts I do need, the rest if for the future when I get a little too rambunctious with her..

Plus pretty much all the glass is scratched on my girl.. Always makes sense to have a donor car when you have the room for it!
