I removed the rear wiper to use on my L wagon. I'm thinking of just deleting the mechanism entirely on this one. I have the cap to cover the hole...

Apart from just being old and dirty, and a single cigarette burn on the driver's seat, this seems to be the only real flaw in the interior.

Is this going to be a donor or a project? All in all, it does not look too bad.

I hope it becomes a project, because other than having almost twice the mileage and mine being a 5MT, this car is pretty much mine's twin!

Not a bad deal. Since its a brighton, are you gonna remove the a/c system to make it more lighter?
Oh, yeah. This is going to be a project. I bought it to have a car I don't have to beat the snot out of delivering pizzas. I'm not sure if I'm going to take the AC system out, because it's heavy, yeah... but there're a lot of windows in this thing to catch sun. My L got awfully hot this summer, and the AC in that made a huge difference.
My plans are pretty much the plans I had for my L, before getting a car-killing job, and then crashing it. coilovers, MB Battle wheels, I'm considering the RFRB spoiler. UELs, STi muffler, some kind of nice seats. not too much stuff at first, just make it look and sound better.
That being said, it is going to be a donor, too. Since my L is my work car, I'm stealing a few things like the driver's seat and the rear wiper to make the L a little safer and more comfortable at work. my back is killing me from the beat-down, broken-assed seat it has now.
And what better way to encourage myself to replace the Brighton's seats than to make them wildly uncomfortable? lol.

I was just thinking, you should think about getting Impreza RS seats, or something similar, for one or both of your cars. I was a driver at Papa John's for a couple years and I definitely feel your pain, back pain that is. I really like the feel of the RS seats. I don't sink down into them, and the foam in them is much stiffer to support you. I actually got my RS seats after I stopped working there, but I'm not really sore after a long period of driving anymore with the RS seats. If you have the chance, you should try them out, or sit in a friend's RS to see what I mean.

AC's are overrated, rip it out. Who knows a radio when you have a sweet sounding exhaust? Thats my radio lol
Well, it's lost the driver's seat. and my back loves me for it. I'll be seeking a nice, non-stock driver's seat to replace it (Rougeben83, I've PM'ed you on this subject) so... the mods begin under my butt.
Oh, and the radiator and fans have been donated to the noble cause of keeping my L alive to do deliveries in. Because job = money and money = fixed Brighton. and fixed Brighton = now I can start modifying.

:smt023 equation! mod time
And, now the alternator's been donated to the cause. This is starting to hurt. But I'm talking to a guy about an outback bumper and fogs. That'll soothe my conscience about pulling it apart. Of course, maybe fogs would be better on my delivery car... since apparently yellow fog lights help you see through snow and the like.

Just took myself a trip to NYC to pick up the mate to the seat pictured. Thanks again to Ben for this seat. I'm feeling better tonight about the future of this car now that I'm starting to COLLECT parts for it, rather than removing them.

Lol Roger.
Glad to see you made it back. Get some pics of that thing mounted up soon!
Probably won't happen terribly soon. I'm not planning on having it road-worthy until at least the spring, maybe the summer. I must have it ready for the New England meet next year, though. That is non-negotiable. I've owned 7 cars in my life, so far. Next meet, I'm gonna show up with my first modified one. I can't not. It'd just be wrong.

oh lol
Just visited 98legacy22 and got an assload of stuff from his GT parts car. intake tube and wiper fluid reservoir for painting and seeing how I like it. Radiator bottle to replace the one that went into my L. Rear struts and springs, front bumper, and side skirts to make it look sexy. Couldn't get the rear skirt off due to rusty fasteners, but he said he'll get it off and hold onto it for me along with the front struts and springs.
So... I'm not sure where I should put it, so I'm just going to use my thread here.
I got my first glimpse into the world of Legacies about 4 years ago, when my 1984 Dodge Ram broke down. My friend, Mary, a dedicated Subaru owner let me borrow her spare car, a 1996 Legacy LS wagon. I was immediately in love. I can admit that a part of it had to do with it actually handling, and not drinking 8 gallons a mile in gas, but there was something else. I wasn't sure what, but it was there. I've borrowed it a few times since, and couldn't figure it out. I knew I liked the looks, which surprised me, since I'd formerly scorned wagons as "soccer mom cars," but this one... it had... something.
In July of 2012, I jumped headlong into the deep end of the Legacy pool, trading the aforementioned '84 Ram for a 1995 Legacy L wagon. Wintergreen metallic, 4eat, 2.2liter engine. It took me a few weeks to realise what it was. it fit me. Both attitude and physical dimensions, this car was like it was made for me. About that time, I joined up here. I knew I couldn't leave this car alone. I had to do something to it. Stock was not an option. Shortly thereafter, Reason held the 9th annual New England SL-i meet, and I went. I had no idea if my car would make it, nor did I know anyone's phone numbers in case it didn't. In retrospect, it was kinda dumb. But I made it. The car performed like a champ, I got to meet people who shared a love of the same car I do. The fires were fanned. fuel was added. Add to it, the fact that my acquiring her enabled me to end a 4-year jobless spell, this car was a godsend.
Then in October, my dreams came crashing to a halt, literally. I spun out into a storm drain, and snapped all kinds of things on the driver's side rear suspension. The rear carries was tweaked beyond proper repair. The Legacy I'd affectionately named 'Grace' was never going to be the same. She was fixed to a driveable state, but repairs to bring her back all the way just weren't worth it, considering the body rot.
But, I consoled myself, I still had a Legacy. I hadn't totalled her. I knew I had to have another one. One that could be modified. One that could be made my own. But I had no money. All my savings, and then some had gone into (pardon the pun,) saving Grace.
Then I found it. Shining white, gleaming on the lot. (Okay, not really. it's pretty scraped up, and it has a little rust, but I'm romanticising here...) $1,000 in the window, a 1997 Brighton. It found me, really. I wasn't looking for one, I just drove by and saw it. Took it for a test drive, and had my mechanic look at it, he told me to offer $800. They took the offer, and it was mine.
Then it sat. Having no money, I couldn't afford to fix it. Things started going wrong with Grace, and I had to steal parts. This broke my heart. here, the car I had such high hopes for, brought down to the level of parts car.
Then came that day. My seat had given out in the L. I had to take the Brighton's seat. When, like a knight in shining armour, in rode Rougeben83, offering up, for my consideration, a free seat! And not just any seat, but an aftermarket seat! Free! That means, within my budget! And aftermarket! That meant I would technically have that thing I've always wanted: A custom vehicle! Not-factory! Modified!
One long, confusing journey later, I had said seat in my possession. Things were looking up. Then, came a billet oil cap from Cal_look_zero for the low, low price of shipping both ways and my OEM cap. Then, the mother lode... 98legacygt22's part-out. struts, springs, skirts, a bumper... Sure they're stock pieces... but they're not stock to a Brighton...
Now comes the time for assembly.
Now comes the time to get it on-line, on the road, usable.
Now comes the awesome.
And all through it, you guys have been there for me. I knew next to nothing about these cars when I joined. My knowledge has increased tenfold, a hundredfold. And I still know nothing compared to some, no, most of you.
But I'm getting there.
Thanks for your support, people of SL-i. You're kinda like my heroes.
New things ordered!!!
Should be getting a rear strut bar on Wed. and some Wagon Mafia stickers on Thu.
I test-fitted the GT bumper a few days ago, and I have to trim a bit of the bumper cover support to make it fit. No biggie.
Does anyone know if velcro will hold 2nd gen GT skirts on as well as it does for 3rd gens?

Does anyone know if velcro will hold 2nd gen GT skirts on as well as it does for 3rd gens?if I were u I'd avoid the Velcro but rather use the reallllllllly strong 3M double sided tape. That stuff is crazy and u don't have to worry about the wind blowing up it skirt and flying off lol
Well, I'd have the screws in by the wheels to prevent that. What I'm really asking is, tape or velcro, will either one work to keep me from having to drill holes?

What I'm really asking is, tape or velcro, will either one work to keep me from having to drill holes?well if ur gonna screw in the ends then u should be good to go on either Velcro or 3M. But how will the Velcro hold up during wet season and how will the 3M hold up in extreme heat? Hmmm
Strut bar arrived today! I'm stoked to get it on tomorrow, and hopefully get the radiator in, too. I still need the top bracket to hold the radiator in though... That and the alternator will get it running again.
Planned projects:
-Mount Sparco SE seat on Legacy rails and install.
-Make GT bumper fit and install.
-Install GT skirts
-Reinstall radiator and alternator
-Install rear strut bar
-Replace rear bumper cover

Its noticeable. I wouldn't say a big difference. It makes the car feel more composed. Tightens up the back a bit. Bigger sway bars will make more of a difference.
I really just got it for the interior bling factor, and because it was extremely in budget.

Nice! Its coming along real well. Guessing your gonna have a gt hood soon?
I might... Though proper rolling stock comes first on my priorities. I've also been toying with the idea of somehow fabbing a non-scooped hood into a drop-vent style. That is far beyond my skill level though.
r3v_v3ng3
04-25-2013, 04:32 AM
I see. I'm gonna be doing a vent style in conjunction with the gt hood. The vent will be on top of the radiator part of the hood to maximize the effect. Thats how I used to think about my skill level but I think you just need to watch somone do something and you'll find out its actually pretty easy to do. Now if you don't have the proper tools then thats a different story
Indeed. I have next to no tools apart from wrenches, screwdrivers, and a 4.6v dremel meant for fine detail work.

Yeah... But I am broke... I think I just have to live with it for now.
Well, I don't know for sure, but I've just either made a big mistake, or started down the road to awesomeness...
Out of nowhere, about twenty minutes ago, I decided, there's no grille for the GT/Outback that I really like, JDM grilles will leave a gap and are way out of my price range, and I really like the short grille that I modded for my other car.
So.
I took my trusty dremel, and hacked the grille recess from my GT bumper and my Brighton bumper and swapped them around. I have no idea how I'm going to put them back together again, or what the finished product will look like. All I know is I've never seen a short-grilled GT without a gap, and this should help me avoid that. And I like the way it looks mocked up.
I suppose this could turn into disaster if I do it wrong, but if I do it right, I'll be low-budget ballin' uniquely, as far as I can tell. Never seen this done before. If anyone has, please point me in the right direction.

Where is this gap your talking about?
I like the short grill mod you did but its gonna be alot of trouble trying to bond it together with the GT bumper. Your gonna need to weld the plastic together and some kind of plastic urethane filler. Don't use bondo filler/fiberglass hair cause they don't flex. It would cost you more to mod the bumper than to buy the jdm grill but it will be a good learning experience for you. Plus you'll be the only one that I've seen with a GT bumper/short grill mod. :smt023
Plus you'll be the only one that I've seen with a GT bumper/short grill mod. :smt023

Sure you'll spend a bit more modding the ob to fit the short grille but how many ppl have actually done this?? What we all do is to our liking and its to be unique. When u look at a car u think oh wow another stock car. But when u start become creative with it mods that's when things start to stick out more whether they're good mods or not lol. Either way its unique. More power to u muse
Found a broken Type R lip and a Civic bumper with one fog light that someon set out for the trash. No idea if I can do anything with it, but we'll see...
Well, I'm throwing her up on Craigslist.
So, is there really any motor better than the EJ22? This car hasn't run in at least six months. Today, I slap a battery in, and it fires up on the second try. total cranking time? Maybe five seconds. So, yeah. Running car now. I just gotta swap the rear hatch out again, get the driver's seat from me and Rkrenicki's BH, the wheels from my other BK, and slap a grille and bumper on. Then? good to go, ready to try that Craigslist thing again. Unless... Hmm. Maybe I don't want to sell it if it's working...
Naah. Bad Muse. My new apartment complex only allows one parking slot per person, and they're already bending the rules for him, and letting him keep his work truck in one of the guest spots.
Still trying to sell this car. Got the rear hatch replaced, and the front bumper... er... well... sort of on there?
