Ok, so my 97 2.5L 150,000+ miles engine has a bit of an oil comsumption issue. I've seen no signs of leaks, no oil on the engine, no puddles where I park. I have, however, noticed puffs of smoke out the exhaust.

So, are there any common causes of oil burning on these engines? Anything that's an easy fix? Yeah, I know it's not likely an easy fix, but I can hope, right?

As much as I'd like to use the issue as an excuse to upgrade to a turbo engine, I don't have the $$$ to pay someone to do it, nor the time/wiring confidence to do it myself.

Probably just compression loss. Try picking up some of that "engine restorer" stuff you put in your gas tank or oil next time you're at auto zone, that might help.

sounds like an internal oil leak like worn piston rings or valve seals. do a wet compression test (add oil to each cylinder after performing a regular compression test to see if the compression goes up, if it does its the piston rings)
