Bought a legacy gt wagon Gen 2 1995 model...
It only has a n/a motor and dual range and I'm trying to work out if it is a genuine or a look alike?
I'm in Australia and it has a japanese compliance plate and looks like a gt amongst one code.
Any help to find out would be great, it redlines at 6500 as well

Pics and we could help a bit more.

I know that JDM GT's are a bit different. From what I know, even just the GT's are also twin turbo cars. Unless it's a ADM, I'm not positive on those.

Just found out JDM means (Japanese Domestic Market) and EDM(European Domestic Market)
so now i know where it's from but it has the turbo bonnet with matching paint and scoop to intercooler rubber and all so still a but confused.....

Where do you put vin code into google to find info?

It is not a genuine "GT" - it has been modified, someone has stuck badges and a bonnet on it, you don't get two tone GT's either. I'm referring to the jap import twin turbo models mind you.

Unless it's some super random euro model which for some reason has been imported from japan? Sounds like its just an AUDM liberty / outback that someone has added some creative touches to, or the VIN plates etc aren't quite legit

The VIN you're wanting will be on a silver plate, has Fuji Heavy Industries somethingorather at the top of it, lists engine / trans codes and all sorts

Dont think we got GT's in Australia. We got the GX, RX and Bilstein RX. The RX's only had the EJ25. No turbo's for us :(

.
Australia got the rs turbo liberty plus Leone turbo models but the legacy is a much better finished car with lots more power

We got gt legacys import until the government canned it and since then only personal imports have been allowed if you owned it in another country for a couple of years.

Does anyone know how to upload photos from a smart phone on this site?
I have a galaxy s2 and trying to get some pics up on this thread.

The VIN always tells the tail....

Most people use photobucket, imageshack, or something of the sort. At least thats what I use.

A few photos to help because vin searches have been saying some numbers are wrong?
There were lots of things like options and two tone, GFGB etc but I still can't get anything positive from the vin number

It's a modified ADM model - probably a RX. The previous owner(s) added the:

Paintjob
Steering wheel
Hood
RFRB grill
Ganador Folding mirrors
Wheels
Exhaust
GT badge
Rear taillights (I think... pretty sure the non GTB, non GT models got amber/red lenses, not clear(smoked)/red lenses.

The non-turbo engine and the dual-range transmission give it away.

Looks nice though, with some better wheels, refurbished brakes and some proper color scheme matching, this will be quite the looker.

Yeah, I have only seen that dual range trans in a Grand Wagon in Japan land. I would love to have one of those to build a lifted Legacy though!

I like it! Looks different! The thing about these cars if you can make them what ever you want. Turbo, none turbo they are always cool!

Been struggling with the vin code all over the internet getting right and wrong answers but one said it was a gt limited so I investigated them and they come out naturally aspirated but with gt badges, bigger exhaust, lots of goodies and turbo bonnet.....
The door cards match the rear seats but the front are a similar colour but not the pattern....
To do a turbo conversion on these do you have to get the crossmember from a turbo model to accommodate the standard dump pipe from the turbo?, upgrade the gearbox? Obviously I have to change the computer, upgrade the pump and all the little niggly things.... I did a ea82t conversion into a standard wagon 14 years ago so I'm not sure if things have gotten easier or not.

elislider

yes you would need a turbo crossmember to fit the uppipe (from header to turbo).
and to do an engine swap youd need to do a harness merge

I've gotten Forrester, impreza, 2.5 sti motor and all sorts! Wouldn't think it would be so difficult.... Many times it says wrong vin to.
Can only keep trying though ;-)

It's been said already - it is 100% not a GT, the EJ22 and dual range are the 100% telltales / confirmations

Everything else is bits that someone has bolted on, it's been modified from stock so the "model" you find it is doesn't really have much relevance to the current situation

There is no such thing as a non-turbo JDM GT model
The bonnet can be bolted on, it would make sense it comes with the shroud as it's just more work to remove it
The badges can be stuck on with glue
The paint has been done aftermarket
JDM models don't get a 220km/h speedo, aussie delivered does
It would also have climate air con, not the manual version
The seats are from a BH/BE

Sorry to dissapoint

Obviously not a (100%¡¡) jdm because of lots of things like 180 Speedo etc...

The trouble is getting a positive id, a couple of Australian sites have said wrong vin code and all others say different or just bunch lots of models in one group that it's in.

America got n/a 2.5 gt limited gen 2 legacys that appear the same on the outside but have the standard drive line.

I bought this car two weeks ago advertised as only a legacy with maybe a blown head gasket to fix up as a cheap stylish run around and I'd just like to find out exactly what model it is to help myself and others who have this problem to find out.

Thanks to all for input on this thread i hope it builds into a helpful one :smt023

I'd just like to find out exactly what model it is to help myself and others who have this problem to find out.
Look at the model code: BG7BK3J

BG = 2nd Gen wagon
7 = 2.2L
B = 2nd MY of that Gen
K = Australian or European (North America is 'Y', Japan is '5' or '4')
3 = a specific model for that region (I don't know what the Australian or European models are)
J = SOHC NA, MT, center diff

What Australian or European model fits that description?
