View Full Version : SLi Flyer, to gain more members *Flyer Updated!*

I am going to design a flyer that will be used to put on Legacy windshields across the world (flare for the dramatic ? :D ). But I want as much input as possible on it, before I unveil a design.
I was thinking of maybe a small list of things that are useful about this forum.
Like:
Get Subaru Specific help from knowledgeable subaru owners
Talk with others who share your passion for subarus
Ask questions about your car, technical or nontechnical
Find places for replacement and aftermarket parts from people who have used them!
Anything else would be great!

probably should say that it's legacys and something about our vendors
Wiscon_Mark
05-30-2005, 04:15 PM
Well, yeah, I thought it kinda went w/o saying, I was just looking for ideas in that specific category, so maybe they'll actually log on once to look, if they get the flyer. I intend to tell them our URL :D
Edit: I'm coming out with a rough draft tonight, hopefully

Please be sure to add a blurb at the bottom that states, "If you ever want to sell your Subaru_____________ please be sure to call________@________."
Whenever I see a gen1 legacy somewhere I make it a point to leave the above mentioned phrase on it's windsheild.
Wiscon_Mark
05-30-2005, 11:12 PM
Yeah I'm going to leave some blank regions for things like "you've been spotted by SLi member __________ " and stuff like that. I'll add that to the bottom, I've got room. It's all made, Reason just needs to contact me.

"Please contact _____@__________. I will then offer you $___.___ for your Subaru ______. If this does not work for you then I suggest you move to______ very quickly as I know that liscense plate _____ belongs to a ________ of________(st, rd, ln, blvd) in ________(town, city, providence) state of_____.

the more simple and easier it is, the more people might go for it!

problem and conundrum practically mean the same thing :?
how about...."SLi is always looking to expand their numbers to increase the information pool and to help any Legacy owner find solutions to problems or general advice on parts (aftermarket or not), repair and vehicle upkeep."
in the box, second paragraph....no comma after "a wealth of information for you to use and discuss."
also new sentence..."No one is uptight or will chew you out for your ignorance. They will give you straight up information you can use."
the last sentence kind of implies that new members are ignorant of their legacy :?
how about this instead....
"This site isn't a product of what a web developer thinks the public wants to see, this site was developed by a true Subaru fan. It's this kind of enthusiasm that makes this a site where everyone is welcomed and no one is "flamed." "

mark - couple more things real quick...
"flamed" should be all in quotations...
perhaps the business card should say more what the site is :?
maybe....
"SLi is an online forum of Legacy/Outback owners from around the world that is constantly growing in numbers and with a wealth of information about aftermarket parts, repair and general upkeep, you're sure to find the answer to any question."
or something to that effect perhaps?

Wiscon_Mark
06-10-2005, 10:30 AM
yeah, that's probably a good idea. I didn't specifically (intentionally anyways) put anything that said, if you don't have a legacy, get out, but I could do more to welcome non-leggy owners who may just want to know more about the legacy.
Wiscon_Mark
06-10-2005, 10:34 AM
Come to think of it, I probably should've made business cards first, because they're much more portable, and I could carry more more easily.
And they'd make my wallet feel full

Too many words! no one wants to read all that stuff! If people are interested they will come to the site and see what its about. If I saw that on my car, I would think its an ad for something and throw it away.
Heres the flyer for my site
http://www.nbautotunerz.com/images/NBATflyer.pdf
Heres the fluyer for a local Subaru club (which I think is too wordy as well)
http://www.subaruclub.ca/downloads/acsc_flyer.doc
I tried business cards with my own site. Too expensive and hard to distribute to current members, too small (No one notices them until they fly off their windshield). Its so much easier to have it on 8.5x11 paper and be able to print it off any computer.
I think it should just have the SLI logo, the name, and the web address. Very clean and easy to read.

06-10-2005, 03:00 PM
I agree with you on that Lee (and its good to have you back, btw) but I think that by itself won't work either. My experience is that people are paranoid of the internet and its contents and just leaving them a logo and an address isn't enough. Shane thinks you, me, and Belladona should get together on this. We can discuss this if you have an AIM...
Thanks for your input :)

Lets just run with what we have. Mark post a poll to see if everyone agrees on what you have so far. If not we can make quick changes. We need to get this thing going quick so we can drum up new members and get the board jumping.
Like watching grass grow in a drought.....ya feel me!!
If you send me the flyer in word format I will post it up on my site and post the link on the board where everyone can download it.
I will see what I can do about the business cards too.

I agree with Lee on the too many words thing. No one is going to read an essay...hell...when most businesses come around and leave flyers under peoples windshield wipers with nothing but "Blimpie" or "Subway" written on it and 3 coupons underneath, 90% of them end up either on the ground or thrown out the window 30 ft from the parking spot. I'm going to scan up a card given to me while I was at work when I met the founder of the Connecticut I-Club. Simple, straight to the point...maybe we'd want something like this (though your other offerings are great in their own way as well!).
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2005/06/CTIclubcard-1.jpg
Nice and simple...they'll find out what we're all about once they get here, the name alone should get any enthusiast here if it is an enthusiast that undoubtedly is tired of being under the shadows of Impreza's at nabisco and other forums, or simply looking for a place to start. Try something along those lines.
(PS -- check out that CTI-club site, the owner is a great guy, has a 2000 coupe with 200+ WHP off an N/A -- think he did the cobb heads IIRC, either way he has subbie meets in CT and other areas, saw a couple legacy members...going to do a little link swapping eventually and get them over here! Check it out.)

Well I got bored tonight, so I made up a demo of a business card similar in design to the CTI-Club one. Remember this was made with MS Paint, and is a complete hackjob...I don't have the font so I had to manipulate each letter to make new letters or words, so if someone wants to clean this up and make it more professional looking (less fuzzy), please feel free and post up the sharper looking one for everyone to download and print out, not this:
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2005/06/SLi_carddemo-1.jpg
It is formatted to proper business card size, so you shouldn't have to reformat it (dimensions are 327x173 pixels -- measured to other business cards I have). If the Avery business cards or whatever other brand are a different size whoever fixes the design may have to slightly reformat it to fit correctly, but this should be good. I wish I had some business cards and a working printer to test it out. Maybe when whoever fixes it up does just that, maybe outline all the pink in black to make it stand out more and look more professional, what do you guys think?

Pwise2326
06-17-2005, 10:20 AM
Thats probably the more appropriate spot for the flyer, at shows...only because you know that anyone there with a Legacy is an enthusiast, and will take the time to read through it. I'm not saying we scratch the flyer idea, but I think the more practical everyday passing the word on the street should be able to fit in your wallet for easy distribution, instead of running back to your car to hit the glove compartment, or worse if you aren't driving. You'll always have your wallet on ya. Just my .02. Anyone clean up that card yet?

I dont like the business card idea. Its too small and easy to miss. Its very rare that Ive had to tag a car when Im not near my car. Its much easier to have a full page or half page sheet to stick in the glovebox of your car. My local club started out with business cards that the owner made up, but once those ran out we switched to the printable sheet as it was easier to distribute and cheaper.
With cards you actually have to get the sheets and set them up and print and bla bla bla as not everyone will have the same text/printing software. I use PDF files because its an easy program to download, and practically everyone has to use it at some point in their life (especially if they go to school)
I like Bellas design. Its very simple and informative. Maybe in a few different colours? Not that it really matters to me, since I only have a Black and white printer.

My girl friend went to school for graphics design. For you that know what Auto Trader (not much of a design but they wanted something simple) is she designed that magazine and a few others. I asked her if she wanted to make us a flyer, she said sure. So if you want me to give her the go head or keep what we have. She could also take what we have now and tweak it a little bit. It doesn't really matter to me. Let me know what you all want to do.
