Sooo... I have this wonderful twin turbo GT-B and one big problem... I live in a county that has smog. I could get a waver every year at a lovely cost of $150, but that kinda sucks. Basiclly all they do is plug in to see if it's tossing any CEL's. If not, I pass...
What I would like to know, is if there is a way to convert an OBDI car to OBDII? I think 96 is still a split year with OBDI and II, but I have not been able to verify.

IIRC you can make an obd2 into obd1 but not the other way around. can anyone verify?

You asking for a headache.
You will need:
1) OBDII Turbo ECU (JDM MY01-02 or USDM MY02+ WRX)
2) Matching engine harness
3) Single turbo conversion
4) OBDII wiring harness (data link port & check connectors)
5) A tune.

Hmm... I guess I'll see what happens when I try to do smog and see if they say anything. I'm still convinced it's a split year so I might be ok.
What about using stand alone?

How does the emissions check work in your state?
Do they just do a visual?
Do they run a smog test?
Do they plug in a code reader?
