My "Dual Stage" intake

Okay, I've mentioned this to several of you, and I finally got to do it.

The idea is that low end torque is created by smooth airflow. Well, when the air isn't moving through as quickly, a smaller tunner will provide that smoothness much easier than a large one. But then air consumption becomes a problem at WOT. So here's what I did: I have a 2" pipe up to the airbox that is open all the time (my primary). Then I drilled a hole in the airbox and routed a 1.5" inlet with a PCV style valve. So when you start maxing out the Primary, the secondary opens up and gives more air.

hey, atleast its a performance mod rather than cosmetic :P

im planing to take off my silencer on the intake sometimes and run K&N filter (gonna be my 2nd mod :-D )

Well, it is kinda ghetto, but then again, it's really no different than subaru putting their own plastic piping on, theirs is just molded and "pretty"

I wouldn't "ghetto rig" a hood scoop for instance...that's a lot different.

You probably could have spent a bit more $$ and picked up a cheap intake off of ebay that is actually designed for your car and a lot less ghetto.

More top end. 3rd and 4th gear, i actually get some head tilt when I reach 4000 rpms.

It sounds way deeper. If you go WOT in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, it's just amazing.

But I thought you designed this to aid in LOW RPM torque.

Well, I had the primary all set up a long time ago, so I couldn't comment on the direct difference. I just added the secondary recently.

I would say that the primary did help a bit, although not as much as I'd like. The EJ22 does have a good torque curve :)

Ive got K&N, and it makes just a little bit of difference in lower RPM, and gives engine a bit rougher sound...

No.

It actually helps top end, and sounds really nice, and it's like a 7 dollar job.

I don't think that's a waste at all.

If you don't have the ABS consider yourself lucky. Its really touchy, and like most systems, comes on before you lock up a single tire.

I almost never get the ABS on...good tires will do that for you :)

Yeah, but when I'm bored at work during a break, I'll sometimes take my car out on the courses. Especially slalom and braking/handling. One of the obstacles is turning and braking at the same time so that you can load up your car one on of the front tires, which causes one rear tire to become light. When the ABS detects that back right tire approaching lock up (since it is almost off the ground anyway), it will trip the ABS to all 4 tires, making you be able to brake less effectively. As I've always said, ABS is a steering safety system, not a braking safety system, anyone who doesn't believe me should go out when it's slick, and slam the brakes with ABS at 20mph, and see how long it takes to stop, then do a threshold brake at the same speed and see how long it takes to stop.

Oh, I agree, I'd rather not have it personally. I really don't have the luxury of steering when I'm on ice and the ABS kicks in anyways. Because if it's really that slick, then I don't really have a hope of the wheels directing me much of anywhere anyways.

So why brake at all? I like have 4 tires rotating so I can turn as opposed to 1. :lol: ABS is good for those who can't drive or are clueless. I think there'd be alot more crashes without out. But, if drivers were educated how to properly use their vehicle, I think the system would not be needed.
