I have an Avital 4103 (I got it free, so it's what I'm going to use =) ) and was wondering if anyone had installed 1 on there 2nd Gen (97 L 4EAT to be specific). I have the Avistart wiring info, and also have a Chiltons and the FSM we have here on SL-i . Rather than be confused to heck by the wiring diagram (yes, wiring annoys me ;) figured I'd ask here.

What I have:

Avital Avistart 4103
Test light
various connectors
electrical tape

What I'm missing:

Antenna
??? (<-- you fill in the ???)

Question:

Will I have to have it Bit Mapped?
Does it need to be coded? (Same question... somewhat)

Everything is explained in the installation manual.

From the BitWriter to the Remote Control Programing to the antenna required

I have the Avistart wiring info,

I do have that exact 50 some odd page manual printed out. That's actually what I'm using as a guide.

Let me clarify a little more... What I'm looking for is the 97 Subaru Legacy L 2.2liter with automatic 4EAT wiring I.D., it's colors and their locations. The Subaru end of the wiring. :smt023 I thought someone might have done one and could help me make the process faster. The manuals are not really definitive with location. I'll be attempting this while on a couple lunch breaks from work, so I don't want to have to tow my car home. I'll be stripping my interior panels out overnight to help reduce time as well as having 2 manuals and Avital's wiring info... and I know I have to buy an antenna. That's a no brainer.

That is the exact same remote start I put in my car (99 sus). the basic remote start setup is rather straight forward its all the extras that take up time.

here is a link to the wires and their location you will need.

If you have any specific question please feel free to ask, wiring can be overwhelming when you first start.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was talking about! My car always had the factory keyless entry. When deactivated, the cabin light comes on and it illuminates the interior. I would like to retain that feature if I can. I'd possibly do the windows options later, but i do like the defrost option it comes with.

some of the feature can be a little tricky to get working, you will just have to do some trial and error. when doing work like this I will put a circuit breaker in the fuses place for the circuit im working on. this prevents blowing lots of fuses.

As for the window roll up and down feature I could care less about that so i didn't even wire that in. The defroster I had wired into the wiper defroster but decided to switch it to the rear but I haven't got that done yet. finally the disarm is straight forward just find the wires and hook it up.
