I am swapping my 95 ej22.with a my98 2.2 from a 5speed impreza, I want to use the entire motor with intake manifold and all.
However, my 95 22 has an egr and the my 98 doesn't ....its got a block off plate. I don't really care if it throws a constant cel. But the problem with the 98 motor is that the harness was raped for a couple pigtails. So I want to use mine with the 98 motor...not sure it work or not. I know jack about wiring and its intimidating for me to even think about separating the harness for merging.
So I would like to know if I was to bolt and wire in the 98 intake manifold with my95 intake manifold wiring will it work with those connectors for the egr solenoid not connected?
I want to know mainly because I hear the 98 manifold flow better. Oh and I looked inside the my95 intake manifold has this small tube sticking straight up inside of the chamber you can see it immediately after the throttle body comes out....I looked at the inside of the 98 I/m and its not there, maybe there is a purpose for that?

well, follow the tube, it goes to the egr.
(it's easy to see with the intake manifold off.)

(auto correct keeps changing egr to erg!!!)

the tube is only sticking up inside the intake mani chamber it doesn't go anywhere. I wish I could take a picture of it...best I can think of what its for is to cause turbulence or splits the air after it passes through the throttlebody. because it sits right behind the throttle body inside the I/m, just to the right of the idle air control valve inside the I/m. Ill start a photobucket account so I can post images.

I love repeating myself, it goes to the egr.

"How does the EGR valve work?
The EGR valve is designed specifically to recirculate the exhaust gas into the air/fuel mixture, thereby diluting the air/fuel mixture enough to keep the NOx compounds within breathable limits. This is done by allowing a specific amount of inert gas to pass from the exhaust manifold into the intake manifold through the EGR valve."

I don't remember asking you how the egr works, I know what that thing is all about....I just didn't realize that tube is what put eg in place...thought it just went into that one passage to the cyls....so pardon me touchy guy.

If you feel like answering an actual question I asked...refer up to the first post, I been asking that question since I joined because I don't want the egr t be on my car....I was only asking if I could use the 98 non egr I/m to my 95 wire harness with egr. That's all.

sorry, i can't answer your question, I don't have a 22.
touchy guy? not even close.
is your '98 a phase I or II ?

It is phase 1 with the phase 2 connectors and the newer pistons....the egr solenoid, valve and connector should be the same on 2.5 motor, I think the tube might be longer.
I just really want to use that 98 I/m because of better design and flow. I can probably tap the I/M and head but on that route I think the head got to come off so I won't have drill shavings floating around in the valve train.
Actually I'm getting frustrated with this fork in the road...didn't mean to reflect that....
