It looks like a EJ25D but the painted intake manifold is throwing me off. The guy selling it doesn't know as he is cleaning out his tenants garage.

EDIT: The more I look at it, I'm 98% sure that's just an EJ25D...

NO. It looks like a wrx motor. Definitely a turbo motor. Notice the intake manifold is taller to accomodate the intake go to thru it and different. Also it has a BPV.

Go buy it! (if everything is good) Still a good deal though. It could also be a STI motor since the manifold is red.

Okay I looked at it more and the bell housing is cracked.

What crack? The imperfection right below the intake manifold? The pics really aren't that good...

It's the timing belt covers that are throwing me off.

that' is a turbo motor for sure, but that bellhousing mating surface looks pretty F'd

Have him take a picture of the sticker on the timing belt covers. That will tell u what the motor most likely is. Intake manifold looks like a jdm piece but I dont think its the motors original manifold. U can even seebits not bolted down.

The block is also usually stamped with the engine type near the oil pressure sensor.

Yeah that bell housing is messed up! If you have a spare $325 around that you can use for this then don't bother. Could have been pulled for some internal damage or something. And it you'll need to get a new block, or somehow repair it, or something. But, if there is internal damage you'd probably need a new block anyways... so, I don't know how much these engines go for, but if it's a good bargain buy and you can swing it, then do it!!

If I were to buy it, I'd plan on spending much more money on a rebuild since it has a mystery history. (haha, that rhymed)
