So after swapping Impreza 3 times and owning many other subarus including legacies i decided i really want a legacy gt wagon. After selling my last swap i started searching for a legacy and could not for the life of me find one at a reasonable price. I was literally refreshing craigslist every half hour for weeks and anytime something decent would ever pop up seems like someone would call right after me and offer more money. A few times i made a deal and tell the person ill be getting the money and leaving. After that no responses. Once i show up to meet someone with my wife and they never came. Anyways i got sick of the craigslist bs and started looking at auction and ended up finding a very lightly hit in the back legacy and figured ill try and go for it. I didnt really want a car with a salvage title but at this point i simply didnt care and it was hardly damaged. I ended up winning the auction and i fixed the car myself.
Mod list:

interior

as you can see the damage was very insignificant. I quickly found a legacy outback at a wreacking yard that was my same color so i purchased the tail gate and rear bumper. later i will either replace the rear bumper with a actual gt bumper or just paint this one to match. have not decided yet.
all fixed

HA! I know those VIN lanes vary well! Been there a couple hundred times... Gotta love VIN inspections.
Whats the story on the Impreza? Another auction car?
Edit: Oh yeah, you might want to update the top of your thread as per-rules... If you need a quick look at what the mods like, look at ether one of my Legacy threads in my sig... :smt023

Thanks for the heads up. Ill hop on that this evening. Ya the wrx is another auction car. I no the older wrx's arent as nice any more engine/tranny wise but it was cheap and with this swap ill have a future option of swapping in a ej207 easily 8-)

About to do this to a Mitsubishi Mirage...

Im using a cheapo ryobi. Back when I did siding I needed a sawzal very rarely. I used it maybe once a month so I bought the cheapest one. It was good for that but to weak for cars. I too use the tourch blades but more like 4 blades per car. I dont have the patients lol. Usually break 1 or 2 blades or when it starts cutting I little slower I swap out for a new one.

Ahh.. I see. Yeah, that might also be why you go through so many blades. I used to have a worn out Makita and it broke blades.
I think I have cut up around 20 cars, give or take, in my time with a Sawzall, so I have it down to a science.

Official swapping has begun!
took exactly 2 and a half hours to drain fluids, remove exhaust, remove drive shaft, remove complete rear end with suspention and brakes, remove gas tank with filler neck and all, install wrx tank with all accesories, install wrx rear with suspention and brakes. Then i had to go back to work :(
Oh and I worked 100% alone.
And for the pics.
Right before I began.

Why not? It takes me 20 min to swap the tank. I wont have to wire anything at all this way and dont have to worry about anything. I hate wiring ant try avoding it were I can. Ill be using the entire wrx harness ant this way I no I wont get any cel's or anything. I no I dont have to swap it and I could figure it out but I choose to do it this way because its easier for me. Its only 4 bolts ;)

So had relatives over at my place this weekend so didnt do anything friday or saturday. But got some thongs done monday and today after work.
I pulled the entire harness and stripped out the engine bay completly. Cut new holes in fire wall for the wrx heater core. Test fit heater core, dash beam, and wrx dash. It fits like a glove. And finished tonight off with tac welding the new firewall pieces in place. Tomorrow ill finish welding, grinding and start bondo on firewall.

What do mean ? It dosnt really just pass threw. I cut out small sections of the bk firewall and welded in small sections of the gd firewall. Then I just bondoed the firewall so it looks smooth and not welded. I did this so I can use the gd heater core and so the wiring harnesses that come threw the firewall look nice and original.

Sweet, can't wait to see it. I kinda want to put a GD dash in my wrx swapped BD, one hurdle I haven't figured out is how to make it meet up with the door panels in a nice way. And also because I have a fully merged harness I'd ahve to do a tone of wiring haha
slavik.86
01-19-2013, 12:45 PM
Ya the door panel part ill just have to live with unless I can come up with something really clever ha ha. If you already have a merges harness in your car I would imagine it would be a major pita to do a dash swap. Not to mention the firewall deal. You will have to have the area all stripped out and the engine removed to do it.

So not to much interesting has been happening this week. Been doing a lot of other things so not much has been going on with the legacy but I did manage to do a ton of small things like bleed the brakes and tie up some loose ends here and there. Also welded up a custom exhaust out of 2 wrx mid pipes. Kinda ghetto but hey its free and I kinda like it ha ha.
Engine bay more or less done besides for a few minor things and a major cleaning lol. Notice no more rice bov ha ha. And im using a stock air box.

No turbo swaps here. My brother bought that with no motor and a shot auto trasnmission so I will throw the engine and 5 speed from the wagon into it. So in a way it will be a swap lol. Just not a fun one.

What I would do is build a box on the back side of your garage and then run lines in. If you insulate the box, it will cut the noise down big time and give you more space as well.
We have been thinking of doing that here, but we are also thinking of selling the house so wouldnt make too much sense at this point in time.
slavik.86
02-05-2013, 11:59 AM
Only problem is a already installed a few extra breakers on my panel and now its completly filled up :( I cant run another 220v outlet so tje compressor has to stay were it is and share a plug with the lift. I was thinking about building a box around it were it is and line the inside with acustics padding or something. But then I dont no if it will have enough air to run properly and not over heat. I turned it on yesterday and went outside to listen to it. Its not incredebly loud but if next door neighbors will be trying to sleep or nap it might be a little annoying.

Smiley?? What do u mean? I see no smiley. What was on them was a mixture of mold, dust, dirt, probobly sweat, dog hair, and as mighty car mods would say human slime. I dont wanna no what else was on there. Hopefully that was it. They were from the rolled over wrx that had a busted out windshield so the car was exposed to elements like rain, wind, dust, acid rain, snow, ect. ect. For months while at auction yard and before.

So a small update. Even tho my seats were decently clean they had a smell to them that I simply couldnt stand any longer. So I yanked the seats out and completly stripped them. I will throw the seat covers threw the washer a few times and ill bleach, shampoo, vacume, ect ect the foam. Im certain that the seats will smell like new after all this.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2013/02/20130221_195311_zps49e2605c-1.jpg
And another rather big update. Iv been searching for a sti tmic so I can complete my vf39 setup. I found the tmic and.. well... I got a little more then I bargined for. The browski had a 04 sti 6 speed laying there that I guess he wanted gone. The deal was way to good for me to pass up so well guess guess my wagon will be six speed hopefully around summer time. For now since I have all the parts needed ill do the vf39 and tune.

And while they were off I had my wife stich up 2 of the holes that rubbed threw. Anyways the job was extremly annoying but I think well worth the trouble.

So I made a gauge spot for my gauges. The right one will get a wideband. The one in there is just a test fit.

Yes sir. electronic boost control solinoid. Had problems with stock solinoids after adding boost and tunning with boost cutting out during heavy load . These seem to take care of the issue.

I was presented with 2 opportunities in one day. First one was to sell wagon for a great deal for me and second one was to buy the rs in rough shape. Again for a great deal. I fugured I should take both or neither. Taking both seemed more exciting and now I have a good chunk of change and a ton of awsome parts to swap and play with the rs. I think I made the right choice.

For sure. So far I like the forum here more then any of the others. Actually wanna go to meets and meet people. Seems like a great crowd. Im also thinking I can talk the new owner into letting me borrow the car for an evening and come to a meet. Im sure he would be fine with it. He stopped by yesterday. He got the windows tinted already looks so good. Wish I snapped a photo

Post up a Members Rides II thread for the RS! Should be interesting to see what you do with it. Sometimes you get an offer you can't pass up.
