Well I been on here for a lil while and for the most part.........I lurk lol. Well Ive taken on a new project, who knows maybe if I get it good enough ill sellem-lol. Anyways for while Ive been wanting to do a splitter. No fancy abs, carbon apr stuff etc, but a good home made splitter out of wood.

This is the one I did for my miata. Not the best looking, but it def handled business. Since I already have a sti base on my bumper ill probably only add a splitter to it. Anyways that will come later. What Ive been working on right now is fog light covers and ducts for the later BD GT front bumper. I put this bumper on my outback and Ive gotten tired of looking at the gaping holes where the fog lights go. So this is what Ive come up with........

The passenger side will have two ducts, one for the intake and one for the brakes. Ill probably run these for a lil while and the final version will be done in abs plastic. But it looks much better than the gaping hole that was there, with the lip and the splitter I think it will compliment the front end very well.

So why am I doing this you ask? Well I used the car as a family beater for a while, only paid 500 for it. And while I did wanna clean it up, make it nice, etc etc. Its more fun for me to just make it a fun purposeful car. The interior is gutted. No ac, no pass air bag, no glove box(which was surprisingly heavy), pretty much anything that I really dont NEED is gone or will be. The drivers side wheel and bag will be replaced by an aftermarket wheel, and Im thinking about deleting the power steering as well. The car is mostly stock, sohc block(more compression), intake, lightened flywheel, straight pipe, sti springs and struts, tribeca front sway bar, wrx wheels with Goodyear eagle F1s. I rebuilt the tranny some odd months ago and the motor will be coming up for a rebuild soon. In the near future I plan to widen the car with sti control arms, upgrade the rear bar, and upgrade to big 05 GT brakes. Well thanks for looking guys, and enjoy!

Minimalist ! :D

Very good stuff.. Nothing wrong with wood if built right and used on the track.. street use seems over kill but the brake ducting is neat. Intake duct seems redundant when you can grab fresh air from the passenger fender but still cool beans for doing some custom work.

Thats nice! I cant sacrifice my jdm fogs for it but it will major be a plus for the track

I made it out of that plastic cardboard stuff you can get from home depot. I tried to make them out of plexi glass bc it was stronger but when I tried to cut it, it broke like regular glass. The final I want to do out of abs plastic. The plastic card board has held up just fine surprisingly. I been on mtn runs, maxed the car out, rain, snow, hot, cold (GA weather sucks-lol) and they have budged or deflected a bit, shocking. The ducts are just couplers i picked up from HD as well. Wrapped it all in cf wrap and it still looks just as it does in the picture. I had planned to just use a fog light housing to make them out of but I would have had to pay 120 for ebay fogs, then tear them apart and get materials. This was much cheaper, just as effective, and lighter!

Tips for working with plexiglass.

Lay one layer of masking tape before you score the glass with a hobby knife. Clamp the glass down to the edge of the table with the score line sitting flush with the edge of the table. Gently apply pressure and "snap" goes the glass.

The masking tape will hold the brittle edge from disintegrations during the snap process.

someone on here I think mentioned some kind of stuff that had foam in the middle and thin metal on the outside and used it to cover the foglight holes on their Outback bumper. I can't remember where I saw it though.
