SCCA autocross

There was a SCCA autocross event going on at the fairgrounds right next to my house...

Holy radical.....

Sti's, Evo's, Vipers, Vettes, Shelby's, Porsche's...etc...I'm sure you know...

I drove my Legacy in and watched....waited.....drooled..

I want to autocross..AND I WANT IT NOW!!!

Who else here runs now and then??

What do I need? I'm scared the parts I installed will fall off mid run, hahaha, but I'm way interested and would love to jump on board...

i do, just havent been able to lately. I run in street touring, and have modified suspension and brakes.

Best thing is to not install anything at all and go do it. Stock legacy is a pretty decent autox companion, and it will really allow you to learn the car and figure out what you want to change to maximize the experience. A firestone 150$ alignments-for-a-year is a nice way to get the front end to stick better and not bump you out of stock class.

And always remember, autocross is 80% driver, 20% car. Practice your driving skills, and become a better driver. You can hand novice guys their asses in MUCH higher-performance cars than you.

I just raced my first autocross today, i must say that i think everyone should take their legacy to the autocross. I have competed in about 5 rallycrosses and i just love the SCCA. I hope to compete in the SCCA for a long time to come.

I ran my previous car a couple times (modded '01 Focus ZX3) and despite it always POURING rain everytime I went it was a blast.
I'm not planning on running my LGT as I'm building up another car as a weekend driver/Auto-x'er/trackday car.

i've raced a few time. the last time i went i got 3rd in my class, so i agree 100% with the 80%/20% comment.

i race my legacy that's built for offroading and i still do well in HS

i took out my seats the first time i ran and they put me in STS and i STILL didn't do too terribly.

i wanna enter my legacy after all the post-conversion stuff, but Im just afraid of being stuck in a class with cars that are just this side of the American Le Mans Series.

I have participated in the occasional SCCA event and will also say they are great in most respects.

A great way to get to know your car and learn to be a better driver. Most cars that are not built to be on an autocross will actually compete better as fully stock, with good tires. Most mods will throw you in a class that you do not stand a chance in. The great thing about their classification is it keeps the playing field fairly level. If you want to mod go ahead, just remember there is no limit on amount you can spend on those mods so unless you plan to spend for the best, its better not to try.

Just to clarify, I guess...

I could give a shit about placement; I've done the snorkusectomy/custom short ram and KYB Gr-2/Eibach Pro suspension mod which, I assume, puts me into a mod class. I do plan on adding a Cusco rear sway bar and Kartboy short throw shifter in the next month or so which will allow me to throw the beast around the turns better, but I also understand I still have engine/power limitations which keeps me from coming OUT of the turns like a bat out of hell.

Anyway....

I just want to drive apeshit style and not get pulled over + license revoked. I certainly am interested in learning more of my ride's limitations as well as gain some new driving skills.

Maybe after some races I'll start caring more about placements and times, but right now I just want to get the car ready so that parts don't fall off around corners :-D

i've run my cavalier in sts and had a blast. placed 6th my first time out and 26th overall out of 50 some competitors. with better tires, i think the car'd really be competitive.

i'm actually hoping to run more this year...

Everyone should give AutoX a try... its cheap and fun to watch, so i cant imagine how fun it is to actually do it. i plan to once i get my windshield replaced (darn crack!).
