So it was about September, nearing October 2012 when i bought my first car. a glacier white 1998 Subaru legacy outback with the ej25d and 4eat picked her up for $650 needed Head gaskets and some other body work.
I never planned on getting attached to a station wagon but it happened i spent way to much time money and effort in this car to be able to flip it for a profit. i started stressing in school over it but it was driving once again new timing belt/pulleys, water-pump, head-gaskets, camseals, oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets and a few other parts like fluids filters etc. then 365 miles after driving it again head gaskets failed.
i was beyond mad with this car it seems every time you fix one thing something else goes wrong. But i never knew exactly what happened to make it fail until i tore it apart again. i thought maybe its because i used a felpro gasket or the RA finish wasn't right maybe there as something warped and i never picked it up. but once i put the new OEM gaskets on and started torquing it down i realized i must've missed a torque spec because the head bolts were so much tighter this time. i knew right then i was offtrack because on of my friends was disturbing me. when i was doing the torquing. (He's the kind of person that looks at something and automatically "knows everything" about whatever it is from cooking to building cars from scratch).
When we started taking the car apart my father (mechanic for 45 years) said its going to be just you and i touching this engine and only use around putting it together. everything went perfect until the last cam retainer bolt broke for some reason the torque wrench never clicked and i didn't pay any attention to it and it broke off. we were drilling it will the head on the block because i didn't want to replace another $57 gasket and wait a week for bill rapp to get another sent from Utica NY. but my dad lived in Maine most of his life so he knows a lot of mechanics up there and the #1 sellin car up there is a Subaru parts up there are abundant and cheap. $120 sent with cams i got a new head waiting for it in the mail right now also ordered another headgasket and thermostat from Subaru. but as of today i found another subaru needs head gaskets but i have the experience this is my 3rd time the car is a 1999 outack glacier white 165,000 5 speed bone stock with little to no rust im looking at it this weekend he wants 1400 obo but i can get it for way cheaper and i thought i t would be cool to pull up in the identical car!
