Started a topic again....well this time I have another car and another motor...the motor is out of my 95 sedan 2.2 l with 267k runs relatively good, could use a few hla's replaced, a little tired but ok. The car is a 90 ls wagon 2.2 with around 298k runs well also just needs a headgasket(s) replacement and all the normal stuff when doing that seals water pump etc.

Though I want to use the original motor, I'm torn between putting my 95 motor with good headgaskets and 8month old seals and pump. Mostly indesicive because I have never done a hg replacement, in fact I just did my first motor swap in a Subaru just finished this weekend. So not too much experience.

I have been cruising around the board looking at older posts and threads and been hearing about machining the heads and hot tanking and stuff like that...I have heard about having to deck the heads but only on cast iron block and aluminum head combos, I don't even know what hot tanking is other than it sounds like a complete dissassembly.

I wish I has enough downtime but I need a second car really soon. Would I be able to just stay with the 90 intake and bolt ons and slap it all on the 95 motor? I looked at it a little bit but my main concern is if the driver side cam cap is the same although the sensors are a bit different

Nobody huh...don't hate on older wagons, they still deserve a chance at their old age.

It should work provided that you use the 90 intake, wiring, & sensors. The 95 22E is a lot closer to the 90-94 22Es than the 96-98 22Es. It's also even dual port so it will just drop right in.

Should work, I would think.... As long as its OBDI.

Man...thank you. My 95 has an obd2 computer I heard not all do, I'm only hoping to use the block, ONLY for cost management I dropped about 2g's on my sedan in the last 3 months, although I need to fiddle with something mechanical to preserve sanity (also I'm a bit impulsive when I see a Subaru for sale), I need a second vehicle as well. You wouldn't know anything about that cam cap would you dead? I know I just have to start taking shit apart for comparison and logging but I won't be doing all that for a week at least while I button my bd up for dail

If you're using just the block, then you're good to go without any issues.
Your OBD1 heads will bolt on & that engine will start right up without any problems.
