First gen automatic transmission questions

I have a 1991 Legacy automatic and was wondering what the deal is with it saying "manual"

also any and all information on these will be greatly appreciated as I am not too familiar with this gen

I believe you press the button it will not shift into overdrive, hence "manual"

Great to use in bumper to bumper traffic-no foot braking, just enging braking

No overdrive on a 4eat.

Seems like it unlocks the torque converter and also possibly starts you out in 2nd gear.

Thread is old so someone else might chime in with more accurate information.
