I searched but didn't find anybody who has removed the 2 roof rails...the ones that go from front to back. Anyone done this? Or links to someone's car/pic who has? Thanks!

I have thought about doing a rail delete too, but I have used them and they do come in pretty handy (I just wish they were lower profile like the new models).
3 questions for you though - what brand name is your lightweight pulley, is it also underdrive (which I don't want), and how does the SPT muffler sound (mine is still in a box till next Thursday along with a rear wing)?

GRM...or Genuine Redneck Machined, actually no brand. It's one CNC machined out of a solid chunk of aluminum. I had an opportunity for a guy to make it for me for pretty cheap. It's not underdriven, it's got the identical dimensions as stock. IIRC, it's 1.1 pounds. Sorry, I'm no help there.
To me, the SPT muffler sounds just right. Mellow, lower tone. You've got to "wake" it up though. When it's cold, it sounds almost stock. Once you've driven about 3-4 miles, and is nice & hot, it makes a great sound. I like it a lot. Kinda of like a softer sounding Stromung setup.

check out setright's link to the sound clip for the SPT muffler. His is a 2.0 liter non-turbo, but it sounds almost identical to that in my 2.5 liter.

Im not 100% positive, Ill have to check at work, but I think on your legacy the rails may be fastened from the inside. I know on my 95 there are caps outside with screws under them, but on the newer models there is no access to the screws outside. they may be under the headliner, Ill double check tomorrow and repost.

I checked on your rails and found that there are three brackets on each rail inside the car, bolts go through the brackets and the roof and thread into the rails. Hope the info helps.

I know I don't post EVER, but I hope you will sympathize with me in what I did to my car.
I came home from mt. biking this morning and parked my car in the garage...with the bike still attached. The worst sound I have ever heard was my bike being ripped off the top of my car :sad11: :banghead:
Damaged my yakima racks and roof racks, also busted the dropouts on my bike shocks, I am soooo bummed...though I am thankful that I didnt rip my roof racks completly off my car. The dropouts broke off my front shocks(bike) and the yakima rack slid back aways breaking my roof rack on the driver side rear and center posts. Put some dents in the roof as well. No scratches somehow or broken windows, looks like all that broke is replaceable. It just really sucks to know how easily it could have been avoided.
So how much of a pain is it to pull the roof liner and remove/replace racks on a BH? Strakes did you finally do anything w/yours?
Aw crap

Jeepers, how fast were you pulling in?!?
Pulling a roofliner isn't hard, but you can mess it up if you go too fast and break trim clips.

Sorry that you had that happen man. Don't beat yourself up too much. This forgeting whats on top thing is apparently very common. Out of sight out of mind. Check out and click on the pic to see it folded:

Why these links? Fold the bike up, and throw it in your cargo area or trunk.
Haven't done the rail removal yet. If you do it, please write it up with pics.
Let us know how it goes.

I was just coasting in, hardly any speed. I guess I was tired and totally forgot the bike was up there.
The bike is ok, though to be sure I will have it checked by the shop. Unfortunatly the front shock will have to be replaced which will be around $250-$300+. The folding bike idea is cool and I see they have beefy looking full suspension ones as well. I have a hard time imagining a folding bike staying together on the trails I ride.

The yellow and blue is identical to what I have, take some time and check out some of the trails.
As for the car, I am going to see if either my homeowners or auto ins.
will cover repairs. I dont have time to be messin with it right now.
Strakes do you have any pics posted of your car?

Holy mountain bike trails speederfly! I'm not as hardcore as you. That's why I have a more road oriented bike. I wanted a fast durable road/city bike with a front shock to keep my wrists happy. That specialized of yours is sweet.
here are some pics of the car:

I talked to a guy that did the same as you and his homeowner's policy covered everything (minus the deductable of course)
