First mystery the one that was solved: I take my poor little Outback into Walmart (I can see it coming) just to get an oil change. Firstly I wanted an oil change and for them to check my air filter to see what condition it is in. They just changed the filter without asking and tried charging me for it, not happening, and they changed the oil without putting the price to me. Teaches me for going to Walmart for automotive. But after they finished and I straightened out my payment issues, I get in and start it up, it chugs and sputters and stalls out. I turn it over again and it does the same again. I figured it had run out of gas cause I was running on E. I get to the gas station and put some in it and start it up again. Same old song and dance. I found if I keep it over 2-3k RPMs it wont stall out. I go back to Walmart and the guy plugs on the OBDII reader and it threw me the code I knew it would, cat failure. but that isn't the issue. I pop the hood and look... The stupid tech didn't reconnect this hose:

So the engine wasn't getting the air properly. Mystery Solved

Mystery 2: With mystery 1 solved, I went to fill the tank all the way up, walk in and put my money down, walk out and go to fill my supposedly empty tank. So I put the hose in and start pumping... 1 gallon, 2, 3, 9, 10, 11 click... ?? "click?" I thought this thing had a 16 gallon tank, I am on E WTF? So my tank is hiding 5 gallons inside when I am on E ok...

I am confused any thoughts?

Why did they disconnect an air line to change the oil?

Your gas filler neck could be rusted or one of the vapor return lines clogged. That is why the pump is clicking off early.

My tank says full now with 11 gallons put in on E.

Was your fuel light on? I can drive mine, given its a 91, to E and put 11-12 gallons in it and the low fuel light won't come on or if I keep pushing it. It will come on and I can put 14+ in depending how far I push it.

Even then.. you do not need to disconnect any hoses to deal with the air filter either...

As for the gauge, it probably is just the fuel gauge sender showing its old age. My BG also shows E pretty early, I put 12 Gallons in there and its back to over F.
