I had a 10mm oil pump given to me with the purchase of an EJ253 and I want to use it but would first like to inspect it and see if it's worth using. Is there a way to tell if they are any good?

If I am not mistaken, when an oil pump goes bad... it is the bearing tolerances that go.

I also know you can disassemble the entire oil pump:

Without disassembling it, I would assume you would just make sure there is no play whatsoever on the propeller or the bearing itself.

You would want to THOROUGHLY clean it if it came from an engine that had any bearing, rod or piston damage.

I have two used oil pumps that I could have re-used on my build... one from the EJ22 and one fromt the EJ251 (10mm).

Considering the damage a failed oil pump causes... I opted to spend the $145 on a new oil pump.

if you can run the engine, use a oil pressure gauge, but if not you would need to pull its apart and use a feeler gauge to check clearances, visually inspect, the rotor and pressure release valve (15019, 15015, 15016)
