air intake/muffler?

im new to this site and i can never find an intake fer my 95 subi w/ the 2.2 or atleast if it is the right one or not..any one have any pointers...and one more thing has anyone ever removed their muffler and run it like that..does it sound good?

I am currently running with a WeaponR Dragon intake on my 2.2 and have no complaints, the only thing is you lose a little bottom end but the sound you get from the intake turns heads...as far as the exhaust I cant help you, why would you want to run it with no muffler?

i like the sound of the sti w/ a magnaflow and since its a boxer engine idk if the 2.2 will sound similar.....i have a cone on her right now its its very loud at 6 grand and vibrates the ground..lol

Ebay intake connected to your stock air box with a snorkusectomy. 6k RPMs? Is the next sound the engine at 5600 rpms? My 96's rev limiter kicks in hard at 6001 RPMs or something. Its almost on the dot of 6k RPM's.

As for no muffler, don't do it. Everything I've read about that is it sounds like butt. Get a straight through glass pack of some variety and you'll get the boxer rumble, even with a 2.2. My OBX is an extremely deep rumble (way deeper than most STi's/WRX's. But it is a bit loud, especially considering how much attention is drawn to such a slow car. (its equally as fast as my friends stock MX-3). :roll: I am debating adding a cherry bomb, or similar glass pack between the cats and the current muffler to quiet it down and to eliminate some of the deeper exhaust notes. (if I remember correctly, the larger the chamber of the muffler, the higher the frequency notes are canceled out, and with smaller chambers, lower notes are eliminated.

With the intake you'll probably lose the top end power (mine seems to get breathless around 5k rpms, which sucks, because you have to go to 6k so that your next shift lands you at 3k, which is where the power is). The exhaust made me lose low end I felt, with no real gains anywhere.

Also, do a ground kit. Your smoother idle and quicker engine response will give you a grin on your face.

BTW, here's what my setup sounds like. My friend is driving my car for the first time in the first three clips, hence the missed shifts.

I also just noticed you have an auto (from another post). I have to say, you'll get a lot of flack for modding a wagon. It comes with the territory. Now, you put an exhaust on a wagon, you'll get flack, but even more when people hear that you aren't the one shifting. I'd say avoid a loud exhaust if you can, not to mention it drones more in a wagon than in a sedan.

2.25" mild steel crush bent at midas and an OBX universal glass pack muffler (they're all over ebay, and about $47 a pop). I also have the ebay intake and a snorkusectomy up front.
