We just picked up a Justy yesterday. It started knocking and the precious owner shut it off right away and got another one. Idk the extent of the damage until I tear it apart but the previous owner offered us a parts car with a running engine if we need it. I'll add pics later because my phone died.

Towing it home (had to remove the hood due to rusted latch that wouldn't function.

I saw one of these a month or two ago on my way to school. I really had to do a double take when I realized it was a Subaru

Sweet car man! My family had one of the later model ones and it was a reliable as a rock.

You more observant members will notice that between towing it home and it sitting in my parents yard that a section of grill has gone missing. You can thank my left hand for thinking a 24 year old grill was strong enough to move a 2,000 lbs car. I still have the pieces and will be putting it back together.

We have them in the yards over here if you want me to look for a grill. I'm planing to pick one up sometime. I had a cousin that had one when I was like 7, we loved it!

It seems that people who still own one of these more obscure(like the SVX, Loyale, Justy, etc) Subies seem to have collected a few of them for parts and what not. It comes in handy when needing hard to find parts

definitely...thinking about seeing what he wants for the running parts car just in case

I think you might have the 1 liter engine, is it carbureted or fuel injected?

GTDrifter
03-06-2013, 01:01 AM
carbureted

Got this from the good old internet:

GL
Similar to the DL, the GL model had two doors and a 1.2-liter L3 engine with 66 horsepower, 70 foot-lbs. of torque and 9.1-to-1 compression ratio. The transmission was a five-speed manual overdrive. Its gas tank had a capacity of 9.20 gallons, and the car could 37 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. Its curb weight was 1,675 lbs. Its height length and width, as well as interior dimensions, duplicated those of the DL.

That's up to Cassey being that its her car but I think she mentioned something about tracking it. Would be sweet to see

After some research I determined it would be in our best interest to buy a new motor for the justy. the previous owner has one that ran when it was parked and we just agreed on $100 for the engine. We'll try to get it running before we pull it but he offered to help pull the engine which will help me be able to install it quicker. We'll be getting this tomorrow =D. Now we just have to tackle some rust and paint.

Lol. Cassey wants an h6 in it...its possible with a lot of modification. The transmission sits next to the engine on the drivers side, even on the 4wd

Alright. We got the new engine today and since our neighbor parked his tow truck too close to our shed to get our hoist out I had to lift the engine out of the car with my bare hands

Next on the list is to clean the engine and Cassey wants to paint the block. We'll replace the gaskets, new oil, plugs, and wires. Then we'll clean the rust and repaint the engine bay. After that the engine goes in and can be started.

thanks zangado

busy weekend it was, for those of you not on facebook, here's what we got done. We removed mostly everything from the engine bay, gotta tackle removing the wiring harness, transmission, and everything under the car on the front end. Remove rust and primer the engine bay. Remove fenders and remove any rust and primer it all and paint, repair the bumper, primer, paint.

My weekend plans are going home early from college thursday, remove the legacy dash and replacing the brakeline then put it all back together. Waking up at 8am on friday morning to tackle the Justy. Then saturday I can relax at a candy auction and binge on some cheap chocolate bunnies and alcohol to celebrate a job well done.

And for those of you wondering, no I don't get much sleep.

made a nice haul at the local yard. I got an almost perfect hood, just has one small rust spot. Got a gold subaru badge, hatch handle, hood latch, perfect grill, some minor trim pieces, and a driver side mirror. For those of you who don't know, the driver side mirror was an option for the justy and all the ones I've seen didn't have this. It will probably never be installed because it looks more unique without it but it's a nice shelf piece just to say I have one.

no, driver's mirror. They all came with passengers mirror but the driver's mirror was an option, at least that's what the previous owner told us. All his justys were minus the driver mirror and they were made like that because nothing there is broken.

Happy to announce that the justy moved the other day, granted it was being pushed lol.

It was moved to provide room for our new boat and was also prepped to be moved to Michigan Friday. Once it arrives it'll be going into our garage and will be worked on when I can

Its alright...it'd probably take all day. It'll still be a nice car once its done. If the turbo blows the engine I'll send nic some cash to pic up a new one and maybe the whole car if they let it go

Tons of work planned tomorrow. I want to repair all the engine bay rust and lay down some primer. Than I'm putting the car on jackstands and start pulling stuff off from underneath

I had an 88 too fwd and it was near perfect condition when I finished with it. Sold it for the same I paid for it $750. It was a great little car and fun to drive. Had so much character. Some guy came and bought it for the engine. Wanted to swap it into his old honda 300 or whatever they're called. 2 cylinder car. Even smaller than the justy. Sad day.

New update. The justy has been sitting on jackstands for the past 4 months. It has been covered with tons of dust due to the apartments attempting to fix the flooding issue which didn't fix it anyway. My turbos and all other parts (including my brand new welder) are fine thankfully.

Back to the update, the tires were put back on and everything was cleaned off the justy in preparation for its big move next weekend. I will keep its new home a secret for now but lets just day it's a huge step in the right direction.

Nothing was really done to the justy since we moved out here because I'm not allowed to do any car work at the apartment, really gay since we told them that's what we wanted the garage for....
