I checked around and couldn't find anything on this,
My 2000 outback has started vibrating/shaking at idol. My first thought is motor mounts but I'm not sure if that's what is causing it.
Has anyone else had anything like this?

Could be a trans mount or an aftermarket axel.

The trans mount was replaced probably 2 years ago, what do you mean by aftermarket axel?

aftermarket axles can tend to be less than perfectly balanced. that being said, your saying it does it while sitting still so it cant be that.

Actually, aftermarket axles cause a vibration when stopped, not when moving. I have this problem on my BG with two "new" Cardone CVs in the front.

ok i'll bite. what make an axle cause a vibration while sitting? as a person who sell axles everyday, this is a new one on me. don't read that as me saying its not possible cause i know that anything is possible in the automotive business. i sell new cardones all day so i just want the info so i know if it ever comes up at work.

I have no idea *why* it does it, but it is a fairly common problem on subarus, particularly with the front axles.
Google "subaru axle vibration", and you will find pages and pages of reports of this problem. The general consensus is to use OEM axles (such as used ones) or very high quality rebuilt ones such as MWE's.
