Turbo time? Perhaps.

Here's the skinny: I spoke to the guy (very nice) and he said this package comes with the engine, turbo, exhaust, transmission, axles and engine wiring/ECU.

Since it would be a pick up and not a ship, he also said I could probably walk away with it for under $1,400 including taxes. Thoughts? Concerns? Issues?

And for those who may not look, it's a EJ20G.

Man I hate JDM engine listers.

Although this guy attaches the original ID plate to the swap so thats not to shabby.

This setup came from a JDM SF5 Forester Turbo MY98..

Which car are you planning on putting this into?

These motors go for 2000ish up here.

Since he is selling it for $1500 shipped, I think that $1400 is a little steep for pickup. It must cost him more than $100 to ship this setup. I would probably see if he would do more like $1200-1300 picked up.

I do also note that it does not have the rear diff.. If you want to use the transmission, make sure you have a diff with the same final drive as that transmission.

Otherwise, what Chuck said.. this is from a Forester, not an Impreza.

Thanks for the reply Chuck! (Woah, that sounded way too formal. Stupid email-response work mode crossover: this is the internetz. Quit it)

Good to know about the engine's source. I plan on swapping this into my BG. Of course, I will need a crossmember and I'm assuming different rear diff (currently running 5MT 4.44 factory unit).

Thoughts?

You can use your 5MT with the engine - no issue. The cross member can be notched to accept the exhaust routing.

Apart from that, you're going to run the same issues that every other swap does - ECU, parts and wiring. If you have most of that, and a healthy dose of fear and planning, then you're good.

EJ20G uses OBD1 ecu and harness. Tuning will be a pain without standalone / piggyback or rom chip swap. E-test is an issue in some states/provinces.

If this were a BC SS then this is pure money.. but well its not..

Even though it's from a 97, it still uses OBD I? E-test isn't an issue for me. Southern US FTW.

Huffer, I'd really rather not use my current 5MT. It's a bit old and tired. I feel like anything more than my current power would just be too much for it.

Ya.. even the EJ207 from the v5/v6 use OBDI (however they use OBDII style plugs) ... in 2001 when the bugeye was released they mandated OBDII.. Remember OBDII was not a requirement in Japan unlike the 1996 rule in North America.

The price is good but the tuning possibilities are weak unless you go with a standalone or spend the money and convert the head/manifold/wiring to OBDII EEPROM ECUs.
