follow up question.... ive got the whole donor forester ('98 S) i think the only thing ill need to source out for the swap into the '95 L is the driveshaft from a MT 95-99, non-outback? i'm assuming the fozzy one is too short

ive also come across the mentioning of some wiring issues due to the pinouts to ECUs in 95 being a bit different and ultimately unable to plug and play into the forester's 2.5 ecu.. im actually a bit confused with the wiring now, all of the threads on nasioc,rs25,SF, LC bbs, seem to have one or two small things that keep this from a step-by-step

Have you confirmed if ur car is obd1 or 2? 1995 is a iffy year.

and the dash harness is totally separate right? i wont have to dig around in the and start splicing shit together?

no its all connected.. only the top portion of the engine harness is removable. You can confirm this with the Forester 97-02 SF FSM which has the wiring diagrams and harness locations.

the portion that goes through the firewall is connected the body harness (its all considered BULK harness)

Would u rather not just bolt the 22 heads on to the 25D block and retain your Intake Manifold and harness + 22 ecu.. it will slightly under powered but not that noticeable.

and here's another question i just stumbled across.. allegedly, the final drive of the 95L Auto is 4.111, well if im correct; so is the forester's so would i even need to swap that out or is there a difference in the auto/manual diffs?

because with that comes the question of.. will the forester axles work or will i need to use the legacy's - which im getting the gist of them not going to fit into the forester diff due to them being a bit longer as a result of the OEM diff being from an auto

From my research all 4EAT 2.2 came with 4.11 final drive rear R160 rear diffs. All 2.5 came with 4.44 ...

So to clarify is this ur current setup?
Donor SF 98 S EJ25D 5MT 4.11
Current BD/BK 95 L EJ22E 4EAT / 4.11

Axles are the same between years gens and transmissons.. Axle length is not an issue they are the same :-D

so i should be good on the rear diff...although it does have about 60k more miles on it...



if i replace the current ecu/tcu with the EJ25 ECU and TCU the car sould theoretically run just plug and play shouldnt it? but the wiring stuff im talking about are things like the digital ODO on the forester

5MT equipped cars do not have TCU's..

And as much as I like to trust those sites.. I have come to the cold hard truth of part number references.. .. Oppossed forces lists the final drive next to the p /n for the ring and pinon .

may as well swap it out for the forester one, its got 60k less miles on it anyways

so down to looking for differences like that digital odometer back to manual and whatever other minuscule things will affect this swap

Pull the entire harness and dash and install it in the legacy. That would be kind of interesting to have the forester dash and gauge cluster while just plugging in the engine and ecu and turning the key. You have everything you need with the donor besides time.

as for the digital to manual odo... it looks like its tied to the ecu or 'self-contained' (http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?p=387394&sid=8e0231cf83e88936c08530f126223f37#p387394) within the cluster itself...

Dash bar should bolt in. And so will the dash. Its the door cards that need fan but do what u like.
