A month after I ditch the hideous 17" wheels and found a set of RS 6 spoke wheels mounted with BF Goodrich T/A KDW so I can install my 4pot calipers.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2013/03/photo_zps52854b3f-1.jpg
2 months had passed after I received my Bilstein suspension from Japan and I have been collecting parts like Rallytek front sway bar, JDM 4pot calipers and a new front CV axle.
https://sl-i.net/FORUM/images/imported/2013/03/photo_zpse3837418-2.jpg
2 weeks after I decided to install my outback sideskirts that I bought from U-pull parts when I got my BE legacy.

This is a USDM car?
Hahaha Rob, Rob. Not yet :P
I'll say it anyway, technically it is a BE9, not a BE5, for reasons that are a bit weird (you want the code in the "Applied Model" section, not the "VIN"), but that really only comes into play when you want to check the fitment of parts. It's not really worth getting to at the moment, but it will be something to remember later.
She is a great looking car, and I can't wait to see more! I'm glad you were able to dril the correct sized holes for the side skirts. I used vecro :-?

Thanks I took my time measuring the clip/tab from the side skirt and applied it to the car but double checked each hole for the right measure. Basically took me an hour each side. I opted from velcro coz i dont want that thing to fly when I'm driving.

My velcro is actually holding really well. It has lasted all winter with no problems. It is more reassuring knowing that I have the proper clip in the bottom and the screw holding them on near the front wheel.
That being said, I'd like to drill the holes, but it is just a little too sketchy for me to want to try, just because it isn't a replaceable part on my car. If I were to mess up, it wouldn't be repairable.

I did my research and mostly people that added sideskirts on there 3rd gen uses velcro and so far i haven't heard any bad experience about it. Its just my preference and I'm kinda skeptical at first but I took my time and came out pretty good.

Post a video and pics too.
It takes a lot of modification to the pipe and hangers since the exhaust is not made for BE but it came out pretty good and I only paid $50 bucks

Thanks MRLancaster! btw a few BE/BH owners including you gave me the inspiration to mod this car. I came from GC/GD/BG subarus but always wanted a 3rd gen legacy when s401 came out in Japan.
My future mods and currently in the works would be WRX engine swap mated in automatic trans so my wife can enjoy it too. B4 RSK replica

I've already got the uel headers on mine. Had to do some small fab work on it seeing my car is the ej251 and not the ej25d which would've been direct. But again very small fab work an it's direct fit.

I knew the pipe that I bought off the wrx wouldn't fit and I told the guy at the shop back ad he sas not a problem e'll make it work. Hours later he says he can't do it I have to wait until Tuesday kuz he "didn't know" it wasn't gonna fit smh. I wasn't dealing with the actual owner of the shop either kuz I know him well and he would've managed to get it done but oh well guess Ill go but dinner instead for me n the wife lol.

This was just a trial project coz me and buddy have been talking about plasti dipping both of our cars. I think im going with navy blue. I have been choosing between Navy blue or charcoal gray. I'm Going to keep it like this at least a year till im saved up for a new paint job.
And this came today my wife sent me a pic 30 mins ago.

Actually it's basic
BE5- 2.0
BE9- 2.5
That's far from the only difference, though. That is the technical difference that officially makes it a BE5, but there are many further differences that aren't recognized, such as the use of ligher materials (such as aluminum in the hood), or the lack of bracing behind the bumper, something that might trip someone up if they didn't expect it. If you buy BE5 parts for your BE9, they will likely fit, but they won't always serve the same purposes that they did before. Some pieces may be lighter, some may be heavier, and some may not interchange at all.
But yes, the very literal difference between the 5 and the 9 is the difference between 2.0 and 2.5, but when it comes to buying parts from Japan, there are more things you have to pay attention to. If I remember correctly, there is a different Japanese model with parts that are much better suited for a BE9. I believe it is the BE6.

My catback came out of a 04 wrx as well. I wish I did my homework more better kuz the mid pipe didn't even fit whatsoever. My mechanic had to fab 3" piping from the muffler to the cat :/ now I have a huge stainless midpipe chilling in my closet.
ecoflame
04-05-2013, 03:44 PM
Ok thanks. I ask because I'm about to upgrade the exhaust line from the header back, and I'm strongly considering Stromung.
Grimmrican when you say you "wish you did your homework better", how so? Would there have been a better option?
rstimpreza
04-05-2013, 04:43 PM
my mid pip was fabricated also they just cut, bend and extend my pipe thats all. of course the hangers needs to fabricated also.
Grimmrican
04-05-2013, 10:31 PM
Maybe a better option or even would've just picked up the axle back instead of the whole catback now I have the midpipe sitting in my closet for sale lol. 3" stainless btw

Are you running 3" from the cat back? I'm fairly positive my exhaust line will just be 2.5" but I'm curios as to how your car sounds.

04-09-2013, 05:51 PM
Yes 3" from cat back and uel headers. Head over to my members ride. I have a video of how it sounds

i wouldnt run 3" pipe all the way since our car is not boosted. im running 2.5 midpipe and 3 on axleback.
