DIY: BP/BL Rearview Mirrors on BE/BH/BT chassis

This particular project is in progress, but I should have it complete by the end of this weekend.

I found myself an inexpensive pair of BP/BL rearview mirrors with the LED turn signals in them and I decided to mod them to fit onto my BE. This method can be used with JDM mirrors as well, but my mirrors are USDM.

Google Chrome's auto-translate did a fair enough job at converting to english, but it did poorly translate some key details.

So, these are the BP/BL mirrors:

Instead of hacking up the mirrors on my car, I went to a junkyard and picked up a pair of decent shape mirrors off of a BH. After taking off the mounting base of the BP/BL mirror, this is the folding bracket that we need to modify:

Using a dremel (or similar device) make the cuts as shown here. There is a hook that comes out of this plate, it also needs to be cut down to the same level as the screw threads. Please excuse my crude drawing, but Photobucket does not have a line tool for some reason, and I can only do so well drawing with a touchpad.

On the passenger side, two screws lined up with no problem. The third is not even close, but I feel that the two are more than enough to hold these in place.

Fold the mirror to make sure that the mechanism still functions properly. If it binds up, then it likely needs a little more trimming of the footing.

On the drivers side mirror, I needed to elongate one of the screwholes on the mounting base. It was only off by 1-2mm. I took a picture of this elongation here.

At this point, the mirrors are mounted on the BE/BH/BT bases and I need to get the wiring done. I will work on that later this weekend and update this post when complete.

Wiring. I took the pigtails from the BE/BH/BT mirrors and soldered them into the BP/BL mirrors. The color codes reflect the pigtail wires. I have only done the one side right now, I will update this with the passenger side tomorrow once I get a moment to finish the wiring.

White and Green are for the LED turn signal. That will be addressed in another part of this post.

Nice! The mirror body looks like it meant for the base. Did you happen to get the power folding one too?

No, I just picked up US market 4th gen mirrors, as they were significantly cheaper, and I did not want to have to mess with re-aiming JDM mirrors.

Nice, I think I would like to do that some day if i could find mirrors in the matching color for my car.. I didn't see you hook up the indicator wires though.. Is that a later date still or did I miss something? i think its just supposed to be later date lol.

I've always liked the mirrors with the led indicators.. I'm not sure why, just have so I will have to seriously consider this.. That is if I can find matching color

I believe that all of the Legacy GT mirrors from 2005-2009 had the indicators. Someone told me that the 3.6R cars of the same years had them too, but I have not confirmed that.

The ones that I have are from an 05 GT.

Mer.. so, my camera decided to eat all of the pictures that I took that day and I really do not want to have to pull apart the car again just for these pictures. I will re-take them next time I open up the dashboard again but really it is quite simple.

On each mirror, the white and green wires are for the LED turn signals. The green wire is ground, and I connected it to the chassis at a nearby screw. I ran a wire from the white wire through the door and its umbilical to the center of the dashboard and spliced in behind the hazard light switch. I chose this spot because it is dead center and an easy place to hook up both sides. I could have spliced in behind the cluster or at the turn signal switch, or at the fusebox, or at the front lights themselves...

At the hazard light switch, the LightGreen/Black wire (Pin 3) is for the Right hand flasher, and Black/Green wire (Pin 4) is for the Left hand flasher.

have u tried to use a recovery application on the sdcard? most of the time its pretty simple to rebuild FAT32 tables.

Well, these were with my cellphone (as are most of the pictures on this site from me), and I have taken pictures since then so I am sure that the blocks have been overwritten already.

I normally take pictures and immediately upload them to photobucket, but I did not do that this time for some reason.

I did take more pictures since, quite a few of them in fact.. just not car related. (preparing for a wave of selling stuff on ebay)

As for an auto uploader, I am going to be looking to start some cloud backups of my pictures database. I have 14 years worth of digital pictures that I have multiple copies of within my house.. with a few copies off-site, but those were last updated over a year ago at this point.

Just to let you know imageshack now offers a cloud manager called SkyDrive i believe.. I use it to keep track of all my SLi uploads. I drop the SkyDrive vLink into my Dropbox directory which holds all my EPC/FSM stuff. So Double the cloud backup :-D

One way of protecting your pix :-D I am assuming your using an Android phone?

I still recommend trying the restore prog i listed above. it takes seconds to scan.
