Hi, i have a 03 subaru legacy wagon, currently i have a magnaflow muffler on it now, it creates some drone sound, and it's getting worse and worse, i don't think the sound gets worse and worse. it's just me that i like a more quieter tone.
Does anyone here has a bh with sti axle back? if there is a sound clip, it will be great too. I checked youtube, and could not find anything.
I think the sti axle back will be the middle of stock muffler and my current magnaflow. Correct me if i am wrong.
Thanks

The drone is from the midpipe.
If you have a resonator installed in the mid-pipe the drone will go away.
Even an STI axle back with a stock mid pipe creates a drone at freeway speeds.
There's a whole exhaust thread with sound clips... remember your car is still the same 4 cylinder flat four. It's no different to the BD/BG/BK/BE (only difference is DOHC vs SOHC for the 2nd gen, but that has no effect on exhaust note).

thanks for the reply, i did not touch the mid pipe. Only the muffler, doesn't stock come with a resonator?

Let's get this straight first - a muffler IS a resonator.
So yes, the stock system comes with a resonator. Does the Magnaflow? I don't know, but it probably has less muffling capability because it's trying to flow more exhaust.
The STi flows more than your stock system would, but is also designed for the majority of the population to be unintrusive, generally.

My exhaust is off a wrx (sti not that there's a huge diff) and I got the 3"inlet with 3.5" outlet. And I like how the rumble is there but it's not obnoxious like my bk was with a 3" inlet and 5"outlet. As for a drone I get it on the highway when I hit a certain speed (70ish) so I just amp it up to around 80 lol

It's the Magnaflow. Like Huff said, the STI axle back will still cause drone but it will just be a bit quieter.
Check this thread out for inspiration on where to go next:

My STi axleback on my old Outback droned rather badly. Yes, there was a resonator in the midpipe. The problem is that turbos tend to run a little quieter (especially off boost) than N/A cars do, so the exhaust isn't really going to sound the same as it does on the actual STi. It might suit you (it did for me for a little while) or it might not. I got tired of the mass resonating between 1200-1800 RPMs.

I ran a WRX catback with UELs and a HFC on my BG and there was no noticeable drone. 03 Leggys should have 2 resonators in the mid pipe, not one.
